Ceiling Medallion Installation

Anyone ever hang a large ceiling medallion approx. 65"x72" oval shape? I have hung smaller polystyrine type before, but not one of this size. Is liquid nails the way to go? It's going on a plaster ceiling. Also there is on the perimeter of the medallion small spaces for screws it looks and small caps that could cover them. Just wondering if I should get the thing centered, drill the holes and send anchors into the ceiling along with adhesive. The weight of this thing is probably around 25 - 30lbs? maybe?

It all depends on the medallion you have. Some come with a kit, you fasten the base to the ceiling and snap the medallion in place. Most others you apply with any good quality construction adhesive to the back of the ceiling center (I personally use Solar Seal for most installations where I want to have strong bond and lasting holding power). Make sure the fixture hole is centered. If you have a rough ceiling like popcorn, etc wet the diameter of the medallion on the ceiling and scrape it, let it dry, then put the adhesive. To hold it in place use some finishing nails at the edges ,on some you can use screws. The fixture cover itself will aid holding the medallion by being attached in to the box, make sure to use longer screws.
Some medallions, come with a template, you mark the ceiling, remove the sheetrock and install the attachment brackets then you attach the medallion. You should have the instructions which come with medallion, most have installation instructions.
Good luck
