Cabinet Hinge Help

Basically I am sort of stuck trying to figure this out. I am trying to find some euro style hinges with a 35mm cup that have a 1/2" overlay on a face frame cabinet that on opens at most 65 or 70 degrees. I know I have seen them before in the past, but I can't seem to find them using blum's online catalog. Rockler doesn't have any and I hate having to go down to louis and company; way easier for me to order some than drive all the way over there.

I need to restrict the degree the door opens on an upper cabinet because the door swings open into a fire sprinkler floods = bad

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

use the normal hinges and apply hinge restriction clips to restrict the opening. At least that is how Blum handles this. 65 degree hinges are not made by them. Or others I believe.

Screw the cabinet door shut.

Actually bob answered it correctly.

How close is the fire sprinkler head to the cabinet? it may be too close and when the fire sprinkler system is inspected, they may have to move the head.

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

The door hits the fire sprinkler by about 2 1/2" so unfortunately cutting the door down it not an option. They are kraftmaid cabinet and I am paid as an installer so rebuilding the box is not an option, I think today I am going to speak with the property owner about some other options. The 86 degree restrictor will definitely not cut it, 65 degrees would be ideal. I read online about some people using chain to limit the opening angle. I would prefer not to do that (unproffesional looking and I forsee potential door damage or screw pulling out, especially in a commerical application) but unfortunately can not find a better option.

Those pie hinges are for a different application, thanks for showing me the link. Gives me one more place to order from (hate giving louis and company money)

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

We just had a similar problem and the only out was to mount a lid stay at the top of the cab.
You could restrict the opening angle to what ever you need.
I used a Hafele part. #365-86-795 or #365-86-786. One is left one is right.

Got me out of bind. Had a couple doors bangin into a built in fridge. Alls good now.

It's a hinged arm that can keep a lid or door open, closed, or from opening too far.

Comes in different configurations.

Yea, I gues I'm a slow typer. He already had that pic posted by the time I hit submit. It can look different too. Kind of like an arm on a door closer or also like a shock absorber.

look better on cabinets IMO.

Yeah, I've seen a few variations before; just never had the terminology to go with it. I'm kind of a bug on that. Drives me nuts when guys talk about joistes or a mattox for digging.

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

Here is a link to the "Lid Stay", thingy ma bob, door swing restrictor, watchya call it, gadget I used last week

https://hachol02.hafeleonline.com/OA...7114F515798FA1

By the way, the only hinge restriction clip for a Blum hinge is for a 170 deg hinge. I restricts it to 130 deg.
I wish there was a clip that was adjustable some how for situations like this but you know that saying about wishing in one hand and.... well you know.

How about it Romoranger, did you get it worked out or what?

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

didn't see the property owner so the door stayed off for the day. I having a feeling he is not going to like the chain I picked up, even though it is a small #5 jack chain in black. I am not sure how much he would like that either; I think I will just tell him that both are much better that sprinkler heads off of 1" pipe flooding his brand new building

To those little guys slow the swing as the door opens, or would it be violent, like a chain?

Are these lid supports something like these guys?
double u x3 rockler com/product.cfm?page=1643 (I am not allowed to post links, I need more posts)
They are cheap enough that I will just grab some in the morning, even if I don't use them I will toss them in my hardware box for another day.

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

The ones i used have a little screw on it that adjusts the friction on the bar. I adjusted them so there was little to no friction. When the door reached its limit it comes to a sudden stop. Not much different than reaching the limit of the hinge.
I suppose that would be violent if some one was to really swing the door open with a lot of force.
With your door stopping well short of normal you may want to feather it down a bit so there is some resistance along the way. I dunno

You will have to figure out what will work. I hope this idea helps you out.

I tried to see what Rockler part you are referring to but did not have any luck, sorry

Re: Cabinet Hinge Help

Thats the basic idea.

I would place that so it reaches out on the door as far as feasible so it has some leverage when that violent thing happens.

You got the idea. I hope it gets you out of the jamb. no pun intended
