Re: Basement Pricing???

get ready to get hammered on this. Nobody can say that is good or not. IT comes down to what you need to make and how much everything is going o cost you. I am going to say that my material cost is close to your final cost.

Based on what?

The OP gave nothing indicating:
- size of the area
- finish of the area
- etc
- etc
- etc

The math is simple - and the responses are all going to be similar. Be smart - and use the search feature for Going Rate, how do I price, etc...

My best advice for you at the moment is to get Michael Stone's book on Markup & Profit & read through the posts the Search brings up.

You would be about $8.00 too high in this area.

Re: Basement Pricing???

Keep in mind the lowballers are bidding on everything right now in a last ditch effort to get food. Even though these guys will eventually die off and go away we are still seeing some still out there.

SO what does my posts before have to do with this question? I lost a few jobs and I need to get by just like everyone else. I am trying to be as low as I can to get the job and feed my family- anyone who posts a response thanks for your help but the people who have nothing better to do with your time then bash others f** off. I thought this site was for help and espically during these times. In ny this economy sucks and people are backing out of jobs left and right. I am just getting opinions from people who I thought may help me out- not waste more of my time.

The question you asked.
like most pricing questions here,
is the equivalent of "How long is
a piece of string?"
No one can answer you.
We would need to know how many sqft,
how it's finished, how chopped up is it,
material prices in your area, your overhead,
how much you pay subs/employees, .......
Everyone so far has given you the best
answers you could reasonably expect.
In return you offer lip and attitude.
You are the one who can f**k off.
Go learn a little respect some where else.

Re: Basement Pricing???

sorry timber, these questions get asked multiple times a day....every day. Maybe the bashing goes too far sometimes.

What you are doing is throwing out a feeler because you are uncertain. If you are uncertain, then you are probably off. No one here is going to know your specifics. I don't care how much you describe it, you will never be able to get an accurate response from anyone here.

Would that not be beneficial to you to get an accurate response? If yes, then you need to decide for yourself if you want to hire someone who can come over, take a look at your project and give an accurate estimate. If no, then you will be getting yourself into trouble, plain and simple.

There are just too many variables. If someone on here comes back and honestly says "No, you can drop that $5/ft" and you do, then you get raped even more, then who you gonna blame? The responder? Sit down and figure it out yourself. You will be better off for it.

Everything - at first you believe in your pricing & what a day or two later you are questioning it? Quite simple, your price either covers, your materials, labor, Overhead & hopefully some profit or it doesn't - If it does - your good, if not good luck because you will need it.

If you are not sure of your pricing, how can you sell it? You can't - I don't care if we are both going for the same exact job and you are cheaper than me - I WILL GET THE JOB. Why because I know my pricing, I can justify it with what the customer will receive.

I lost a few jobs and I need to get by just like everyone else.

Trust me I am in the same boat & can feel your pain & frustration

I am trying to be as low as I can to get the job and feed my family

Wrong in so many ways - get the book like I stated & many others have stated & run your business

- anyone who posts a response thanks for your help but the people who have nothing better to do with your time then bash others f** off.

I'm sorry if you consider it a bash - but there was good info in my post - if you actually took the time to see what was written & why maybe you would be in a hell of a lot better position

You are lucky you actually got so many good replies without allot of bombs dropping on your head - Thus the d@%$ joke at the end, sorry it got your panties in a knot

I thought this site was for help and espically during these times.

This site - is for contractors to help, harass & relax in - just like a normal job site. If you can't handle it, well ...

In ny this economy sucks and people are backing out of jobs left and right.

Like the rest of the world isn't?

I am just getting opinions from people who I thought may help me out- not waste more of my time.

Perhaps you should run that search & read the book. He also has some good ones on Marketing to

You did very well. I almost teared up reading it. There was no lead in for me to jump on him.

Well written, stuck to the important stuff, no name calling. Bit disappointed, except for the knot in the panties thing

Re: Basement Pricing???

I'll give th OP a hint as to why so many here get hostile when it comes to posts like this.We loose jobs to "contractors" that bid jobs and have no idea what they are doing, yet they still land the job.If you can't do something as simple as submit a solid bid to your prospective client you have no business bidding it in the first place.

Re: Basement Pricing???

IMO, his ignorance is understandable.
His attitude is.....more than I want to
overlook.
He was given sound advice and spit
on the guys that tried to help.
He has a lot to learn about contracting,
but even more to learn about life.
Sounds to me like he wants to
learn it all the hard way.

Re: Basement Pricing???

Experience! If you know what your worth & capable of producing it's not that difficult. Material is easy & your overhead is & hard costs should be easy, now just add them together & you have a bid.

That is why I said close like horse shoes and hand grenades. The last 3 basements I have done the material cost was close to that. Like you guys have said there is not near enough info to give him help on this. If he could toss up a drawing with dimensions or something that may help but I could drive 20 mins each direction and each place would think I am either high or low.
