Arbor Help Please...

Hello All,

I am doing a bid on an arbor that is angled.

The HO wants several different views, the trouble I am having is with the angled top beams

Would they be placed something like this:

Thank you,

Charles

Re: Arbor Help Please...

I see about 10 different design options, it depends on what you want to achieve. But, I certainly don't see doing it the way you are proposing. Can the purlins extend beyond the edge of the concrete patio below? If so that opens up even more possibilities.

Hello Mike

Thank you for your reply.

Yes this guy is up for anything including removing a tree and adding to the concrete patio. He just wants several designs to look at because he is not sure what he wants right off. (It would be nice if I saw about 10 design possibilities but I don't, lol) this is much Bigger than I ever did and I am struggling with it. I am soloist and right now I would hate to give up this job, cause I would really like to do aside from needing the money.

Re: Arbor Help Please...

Here are some rough concepts. I would extend the purlins beyond the patio and get creative with it. If it has to be neat and flush as your drawing then there are ways to do that too.

Re: Arbor Help Please...

Hi cdelape,

Sounds like the HO's asking for a lot of free design (several designs to choose from). I know you want the job but remember your time is valuable and help the HO to remember that too!

Are you building this as a freestanding arbor or will it be tied into the house? A freestanding arbor would give you more options in terms of direction of joists, placement of posts - the downside is posts near the house.

Another project option would be to offer custom cut ends on your rafters.

(Forgive me if you respond and I don't get right back - I'm pulling 60-70 hour weeks these days!)

Good luck with the project, I hope you get it.
