heaving slab

I built an unheated barn two years ago, with 4 foot frost walls, and gravel under the slab. Come winter the slab heaves right infront of the door-its ugly. I would like to repair the concrete but have to stop the heaving first. I am thinking of digging down about a foot on the outside and laying some rigid insulation horizontally(this is only along the south wall). Whatdaya think?
