There is a local plumbing contractor that boasts of their clean organized well stocked trucks and even invites clients to check them out. I guarantee they don't get the attention that that truck does.

This is another reason why the construction industry suffers an image problem. It is a lack of respect for the profession.

We plumbers take our profession quite seriously.

Most of the plumbers I know, however, don't take themselves that seriously. Self deprecation seems to be a common trait among them.

Not around here, but most of the shops are union and they take themselves very seriously.

There's that plumber down in SoCal, Mike Diamond, who has that marketing scheme, "The Gayest Plumbers in Town"....nah, but its like "The Plumbers Who Smell Good" or something.

I could never guarantee what a plumber will smell like after 8 hours, but I see his point. My trucks, uniforms and work spaces are always clean and it helps the plumbers self image and the public's image of the plumber.

HaHa....."I'm Mike Diamond and I gaurentee my plumber will show up on time and smell good (insert harp music) or your house call is free. It's just the charge to show up.

My first boss was a retired SoCal Gas plumber for 20 something years. He used to work side by side with him. My boss hated him with a passion. He used to tell me stories about this guy getting to a job and crawling under a structure and just sleeping all day. Man he hated that guy. "Effing guy doesn't even know what a supply house is"...it was funny.

He now does heating - air - plumbing - and electrical. That is the direction I have been planning on taking my business aswell. Except for heating and air. I hate messing with all that.

The Smell Good plumber.

There is a lesson to be learned from him....He's making top dollar and doing A LOT to change the poor image of tradesmen. Improving the overall image nets us all one thing....more money.
