I never see them on a water heater, no matter who installed it. Is that code required, and if so, it it often overlooked?

A designed leak waiting to happen, I love those things.

Just to clarify..you love dielectric unions because they will leak eventually? I read that they do. (Do you just snug them up or remove or replace them?)

Pressure gauge in first pic. I rarely if ever see one installed here.

Re: Bad Water Heater Installs

Long story short, the customer calls last fall and says he "thinks" he might need a new water heater. Has an old crappy basement that often has water issues. Wants to know if maybe raising it up on pallets and going electric might be the better option because the vent is too low to raise a gas one.
I find this when I go to do the replacement. Believe it or not, the old gal was still firing and producing hot water, although limited amount. The bottom was sitting in mud. I think the gas line and plumbing were the only thing holding it up.

Another beauty. The draft hood on a commercial tank going into a horizontal 12 inch( if memory serves) common vent for twinned tanks. Actually, the twinning wasn't fitted properly either. The foil tape was funny. Not exactly a lot of rise coming off the vent connector. Lol.
