WOW!! Those last two pics-- is that 3/8" mosaic glass?

Awesome work, Chris, plain and simple. Looks like you might've been there a day or two!

Yeah, they're tiny & they SUCKED.... Oceanside makes some good stuff but if anyone ever tries to specify those little F-ers... talk them into the 1"x1"s instead.

Paper faced is always a challenge--but those little guys did not want to stay on for anything. We lost 6-8 pieces per sheet just getting them out of the box.

Hey Chris, one thing I've noticed over the years-- the ones that take the longest, and seem to go on forever-- the ones where you're lucky if you're installing 20 feet a day-- THE ONES WHERE YOU'RE READY TO PULL YOUR HAIR OUT AND KILL SOMETHING BY THE TIME YOU'RE DONE-- those are also the jobs that you swell right up with pride about. And this is no exception.

Here's another shot from the dining room.

I think this wallcovering is cool as hell.

These two spaces were part of a whole house renovation, which included four other baths, various living spaces--plus a spa room which I posted to another thread. The only spaces not touched were the kitchen and master bath, which we had already remodeled in 2004. The entire project was designed by Matt Harris. I have worked with him for over 8 years and he is extremely talented.

Working for him, I've had the opportunity to build some amazing things and work in some great houses. If you look at my website, you'll notice his design credit on a lot of my work.

Designers come in all shapes, sizes & abilities... They're a lot like realtors--80% of them aren't worth a nickel. Of the 20% that are left, only about 5% really understand how things are built.

Working for a bad one can make you want to chuck it all and go bag groceries. Working for a good one can teach you more than any book or trend magazine ever could.
How much does Matt charge, better yet, how much did he charge you or HO for the design work here?
If this is a rude question, then please tell me..

Re: New Entry Floor

I honestly don't know what he charged for this particular project. Our contracts with clients are seperate. I have a rough idea what he charges hourly but it's not something I care to post.

Designers charge fees in different ways. Traditional architects usually charge a percentage of the total project cost. They'll usually step their fees based on how far the client wants them to take it. For example, the first tier rate is just to take the project from concept to a build set of drawings. The next tier includes that, plus finish & fixture selections. The highest rate is all of the above, plus consulting throughout the course of the project.

Strictly interiors people usually have an hourly rate, plus they make markups on the furniture, accessories, etc. they help their clients purchase.

Matt is both an architectural and interiors designer. Now that we've completed the construction portion of the project, he is working with the HO to select furniture, art, accessories, etc.
