Re: Master Bath, Just Completed

I'm pretty fond of DensShield. We use it in most cases.

We waterproof the corners & horizontal surfaces before tile.

The pan is Composeal over a preslope, with a Laticrete 226 mud bed.

I buy all my slates direct from a dist. wholesale. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the info.

Most of their colors come landed to me from $4.50 to $5.50 a square foot, including shipping. Which is pretty damn good for natural stone. Some colors are guaged & squared better than others, but I've never had significant shaling or spalling with any of their products. They have several dozen varieties and carry most in several different formats.

There are two colors we use, midnight black and silvergrey (blue/green), which come from a quarry in Brazil. I'm not sure what process/machine they use there--but the tiles they turn out are as perfect as any porcelain for guaging and squareness. It's a wonderful product to install. It's the same slate from this thread:

Sounds nice, but it'd be alot easier to "imagine" with PICHERS!!

As for the Brazilian slate, they can be a bit fussier because it's a stronger stone than slate from almost anywhere else in the world.

Re: Master Bath, Just Completed

Thanks very much, I appreciate that.

That wall was a lot of fun to build. The bookcases and pocket door cabinets were stock, but I custom built the mantle, solid maple cap (12' long x 24" deep), and the angled surround of the firebox.

Re: Master Bath, Just Completed

If you're designing a contemporary/modern/transitional bath, you might take a look at these vanities from the bath above:

They're Porcher, and very well made. They make two sizes, I believe, in either bamboo (above) or something called "natural wood Mozambique".

The center doors have push lock mag catches. The left hand door also has a round magnifying mirror. There are cool little telescoping towel rods on the sides, too. The two drawers have very smooth, full extension, self closing guides.

Your rough-ins have to be dead on, but other than that they were pretty straight forward.

The faucets we used are Porcher and I think the sinks are Lacava. As you can see, you can also use a wall mount faucet.

Here's their smaller version:
