Great Moments in Floorcovering
I submit for your amusement what is very likely the farthest recorded distance traveled for a deflected piece of molding. Measuring from the blade of the saw to the point where it finally came to rest, this small piece of base shoe sailed an astonishing 68 feet 4 inches. Yes, I am easily amused.
I should note that it was Sheldon (pictured, waving) who was responsible for this Great Moment in Floorcovering.

That's pretty good!
I had a guy helping me last summer and while using my miter saw, apparently decided to bring it down on my aluminum speed square. Thankfully, no injuries (to him or the saw blade) but we never found some of the pieces.

I had a piece of molding hit my ball cap and send it a little over 11'
I love the fact that you are so amused by your saws conquest but admitedly it is funny!

Yah, wood blades don't cooperate much when cutting aluminum. My ears are ringing just thinking about it!
When I started in flooring the order of the day was Pergo. This was in about '94 when the product was brand spanking new and only available at Color Tile stores.
There was much to overcome, but nothing was more challenging than using the miter saw to cut the aluminum threshold moldings sold with the floor! At that time there was not a line of 'matching' trims available. The trims were availble in silver, bronze and gold ONLY.
I was new to the trade but it took little time to learn that, despite my boss' assurance to the contrary, cutting aluminum with wood blades is insanity. I did as I was told and, with caution, successful cuts could be made 80% of the time. The other 20% of the time was terrifying. I am lucky to have survived.
