Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

Great work! You should be very proud. How picky was the HO?

As for the design- hhhmmmm, with all that money they could have come up with something better then hex everywhere. I'm sure they don't do their own cleaning...but could you even imagine scrubbing all those grout lines? As for the seat- doesn't look like it would be very comfortable to sit on, but the tiles are fabulous!!!!

Great craftsmanship Bill,I can see you earned your money on that one!The HO should be shot for that design though.

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

My first thought on this project was about keeping it clean as well. I get the feeling it doesn't bother the homeowner too much, though, being that they have a housekeeper. As for the design, I get a kick every time one of you mentions that. All that hex doesn't trip my trigger, either. It's one of those things either you love it or you don't. it's that simple. This guy and his father, though, are both world renowned for their architectural designs. His father designed places like Grand Central Station and the Vanderbuilt mansion on Long Island. Alan's big claim to fame was being Donald Trump's architect before he retired. So if hex floor to ceiling is what he wanted, who am I to argue!! I'll simply take whatever material he gives me, and make it look just as good as I can.

Laurie-- as for the seat, shower seats usually aren't made to sit on, unless it's a steam shower.

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

I'm a bit confused. The seat I'm talking about is the one in the bay window with all the fun/ pretty tile. That isn't in the shower, right? It looks like it has bead board on the walls. As for cleaning...I just installed split faced travertine in a kitchen, behind the stove! talk about hard to clean.

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

Sorry about that-- my mistake!! That seat is obviously for display purposes only. The value of two or three of those tiles could pay my salary for a year!! Not something you want to sit on.

As for the split face, I'd like to know what sadistic b*stard came up with that idea!!

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

My HO did the design for the kitchen tile. I overheard a conversation between the wife (did the desing) and the hubby. It went something like this...
Hubby, "why would you choose something so hard to clean?"
wife, "I like it."
Hubby, "how are you gonna clean it? I can't believe you chose that!"
Wife, "I liked it."
Hubby, "how are you gonna keep it clean?"
Wife, "I will say, 'Consuelia, clean behind the stove.' "
Hubby rolled his eyes and walked away.

I thought...poor Consuelia (she's the nanny)

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

Hey Bill! Great tiling!

What's the easiest way for you to cut those hex tiles? Do you snap them?

I bet all those cuts took a while huh? I did those same type of hexes for a customers small bathroom floor and it took me awhile. I even sliced open my thumb cutting those 12x12 hex sheets down to size. Ouch. I thought I'd need stitches but I lucked out. After that I decided I hated hex tiles.

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

Actually, I was worried about the cuts because they'd all be so visible, so every bit of it got sawcut.

Funny thing-- I got the email notification that someone had replied to this thread, and when I saw your name, I thought you might be my sister! That's her name in her business email (Tile_Lady), and she's even working with a company from down in your area as a project manager. (Coastal Tile and Marble out of White Plains)

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

Bill,

I guess any woman who does tile is given the name 'tilelady' by her customers. LOL. Actually that's what everybody calls me. So I got a custom NY license plate for my car that says 'Tilelady'. I figured it was already taken, but to my surprise, it wasn't.

Re: Anyone Like White Hex?

I think White Hex opened for Stryper and Poison in San Diego back in '92. They were pretty good back then, I think...

Edit: On second thought, it might have been for Ratt and the Crue when they double headlined at Long Beach in '93. Lots of memory lapses from that time period...

Nice work. Very nice.

That hex design and application will grow on you. Certainly!
