Re: Stripes

yes low tack, I also like it cause its thin (at least seems thinner then regular blue tape from 3m) doesn't build up the stripes. So if they need to be painted over some day it shouldn't much work to feather the edges.

technique? I just tape them out and paint them, I will make sure my first stripe is completely level and them measure off of that one to do the rest.

I measure out my walls and divide by the size of the stripe. I usually will fudge a little if I get off, the human eye has a hard time picking up a difference of 1/8 of inch or so.

Re: Stripes

Nice striping! Have you ever used a watered down clear on the edges before you stripe to prevent bleed through?

Here's a couple photos of a recent job- 128 stripes, stenciled gold rope braids, silver middle stripes, parchment glazed darker stripes, lighter parchment wash over all. Then finished with a metallic glaze wash of Mother-of-Pearl. Almost 3 weeks start to finish on this job...

Nice work! A lengthy step by step about measuring walls for stripes can be found at thepaintedsurface, look for the striping page.

Nice work, I would love a job like that! I have heard of that trick but have not tried it.

Re: Stripes

Thanks- Yeah that was an estate home that we did a lot of custom venetian plaster (hand sanded/polished and waxed) along with tons of faux, wallpaper, and regular painting. We originally contracted to do all the cabinetry only (4 months with a crew of 3!), but I was able to upsell all the rest. The master bedroom/bath/sitting room took a total of 9 weeks of various faux applications including the stencil (photos above), a fresco type stenciling, two unique types of venetian.

We have hundreds of pics that are getting ready to be uploaded to our site from that one. Love those private estate homes!

Thank you. The light color is Sherwin Williams Irish Cream. The darker color is Sequin mixed 1:4 with clear glaze and ragged on. The decorator didn't want a solid stripe. I should also clarify this isn't really the "first" stipes I have done, because I have done horizontal stripes and some decorative gold striping. But this is the first time I have layed out an entire room for vertical stripes, balancing each wall from corner to corner while at the same time balancing other architectural features.
