Stained Cedar Siding

Hello,

I just got a job offer involving taking off the old stain from a cedar wood siding and re coating it with a new stain.
I have never done this job and do not know how to take the old stain off. And the steps how to apply the new stain.

I had read in this forum, to take off the old stain, it had to be "power washed" but I do not know how much it has to be power washed.

Can anyone help me explain it to me in a step by step process from power washing to the final coat of staining.

Does the stain need any kind of chemicals or protected coat.

Thank you for the help.

I agree with rws on this one but I also don't your tenacity/skill level so I won't say let someone else have the job but this is advanced stuff. As long as you know what you are getting into. I positively would need to know what kind of stain is on there now.

solid: will look like paint, no grain showing.
semi solid: looks like watered down paint. Grain is obscured by opaque color. Both a solid and semi solid could show signs of flaking.
Semi trans: Can come in water borne or oil/alkyd based.

Bring along a can of Easy Off oven spray (the one that contains sodium hydroxide) Apply it in a hidden spot and wait ten minutes. Let me know what happens to the finish.
