Let's Watch This Paint Dry

P2260002.jpg

I hate looking at stucco 20 minutes after we paint it, always wondering if it will dry and look O'k. Seems to always look fine when dry though.

lol, yep it is something like " I hope it dries down and doesn't look so blotchy"

Nice truck lettering Mike. I don't know about the spilled paint can on it but other than that

The spilled paint can is an eye catcher, says go green.

That isn't what I am hearing it say...

This is another (local) company that speaks your language. Check out the two "professional" painters in their logo.

I always carry the ladder in a different direction than my helpers, and spill my paint.

Re: Let's Watch This Paint Dry

I always said I would never have a can spilling or anything like that, but after heavy consideration one day I decided to put that logo on this one truck.

The ladder guys in that pick are ridiculous, lol

Thanks Wise, I do like the cans and get a ton of compliments and calls from this truck, way more than any other vehicle I have.

I am considering a work truck like yours, and I do like the graphics they stand out well.
Still not on board with spilled paint in my logo though...even drips on business cards make me cringe a bit. I guess spilled paint (bright red alkyd on freshly installed wool berber carpet) is my second worst fear. My first fear is tumbling off of a ladder in front of a client.

With my luck it would be more like a 2' step stool.

How is the stucco looking now?

Re: Let's Watch This Paint Dry

Thanks for the interest and the feedback on the ladder guys in my logo.

Yep, the guys are facing different directions (they represent my brother and I)

Yep, they appear to be spilling paint (we really discourage that!).

So what.

That logo actually started out as clip art chosen by one of our first customers. We were just getting started and the customer owned a printing company. As part of payment for some additional work, he provided us with our first business cards. Well, 15 years later the logo is still there! People recognize the logo, it's on our vans, trucks, trailers and yard signs.

For some reason, these guys haven't stopped us from expanding to 9 crews, $1.5 million in sales and a new 10,000 sq.ft. building that we built.

A professional painter isn't defined by his/her logo, but by their actions, quality, service and repuation. I'm not ashamed of what we have accomplished in the past 15 years. I actually OWN a building and am dang proud of it. Not many painters can claim that.

Like I said, I've been in business for 15 years and a painter for about 18. I hope I can be a constructive member of this forum.

Re: Let's Watch This Paint Dry

That is a wonderful first post, it really gets my mind going here.

If you have that logo on everything and have 9 crews then I guess it threw us a curve. We are stuck inside the box but with you coming in here and posting this I can see a little better from the homeowners view.

The guys even though they are not looking the same direction are ready to work, maybe they have a pretty good price since it is not all fancy but I'm sure if they are painters then they will do a great job.

I said they are looking ridiculous and now I feel like it may of been genius. Congrats on that new building you own, I to hope to own a huge building one day.

Seeing as though you guys are a proven million dollar company I am really eager to learn some of the business methods you employ. I see that you are also a siding and window contractor, what is the ratio of painting vs. construction profit?
Do you have sales people, or is it just the 2 brothers?

I need to make $1.5 million!

Re: Let's Watch This Paint Dry

Sorry, been a little swamped here!

Just remember, MAKING 1.5 mil is a lot different that SELLING 1.5 mil!

The best advice I can give is to grow slowly and finance your own growth. It took 15 years of slow, steady growth to get where I am today. There's a lot of risk involved. I have a decent amount of overhead, but I keep it as low as possible. I am also under increased pressure to maintain that overhead! Not selling work is not an option....for long!

I'll post more when I get a chance.

I am very happy to be a little behind on my proposals, it's a sign that things are getting better here!

Wise, are you located in the KC area?

Re: Let's Watch This Paint Dry

Sure am, just outside of KC, that's why I am curious what the secret is to navigating the KC market as a larger company. I run a one man show doing high end repaints and I am busy with word of mouth clients, I couldn't imagine roughing it against the massive amount of fly by night painting companies around.

Kudos to you guys for remaining competitive, and swamped with work!

Where did you guys go?

Ah the internet...you saw your site had a hit from this site, visited to see if there was any profit potential and when you saw none...poof.

Bummer.
