Hel--advice On Staining


if we were to stain interior Oak window casing, do we have to polyurethane it? also,could we eventually re stain it a different color or even paint it?

No, but if you want better results and a protected finish I would advise doing so.

Are you serious? Decide what you really want before you touch that trim.

so with staining,you should always put on a polyurethane finsih..? i assume when you say protective finish,you mean polyurethane?

Yes you can always stain darker, or strip and stain lighter.

You can paint over it, yes.

No you don't have to strip, use a product made for going over a lighter stain and sealer to go darker. Just sand the surfaces like you would for a future re-seal and apply the stain on the surface. I change light stain to dark stain all the time on re-paints.
