Handy Man Special

Picture right the handyman did a month ago he just rinsed it with powerwasher and sealed. Nasty black runs all over it homeowner thought it was done for good...We blasted it with a cheap stripper and the home depot crap came off like nothing............

All the black runs did not come off but when we put the semi cedartone on it masked the black some how and you could not see it...

Re: Handy Man Special

when you say you "blasted" the deck are you using that term for effect?
Look alright but why didnt you try to clean the black streaks?

Re: Handy Man Special

As far as the black **** its only on the side in the picture. It was low a budget job..... Our local paint dealer only had some garage stripper we blasted it with that..... It broke down the Behr sealer and it powerwashed off..... We could have did a full restore but the house was forsale they did not want to go that far dollar wise.

Re: Handy Man Special

Hudson, I wish I had a dime for every time I have heard that. Narrow your market focus. Target the people who want quality.

If everyone shopped and was happy with Walmart, Kia and generic soda, Niemann Marcus, Mercedes and Coca Cola wouldn't be in business.

I understand this situation may have been unique as the people were selling (wish I had another dime for every time I heard that) but for a deck that size, counting lattice, I get $1300+ every day of the week and won't have more than two guys on it for a total of maybe 4 hours. (strip/pH balance/sand/stain).

PS: The deck looks great, you did a nice job.

Re: Handy Man Special

boman, yes, it can be done with an oil based product none-the-less ;-). I won't name the product here because quite frankly the manufacturer doesn't deserve the free press. I still don't like staining saturated wet decks though. We usually strip two or three samll ones one day and stain them the next day.

Re: Handy Man Special

I know I have seen posted on here about staining wood while it was still a little wet. Just had no idea 3 hrs would be enough time for drying. K, maybe here in Alabama lately. Man! It has been hot.
