Great project pics.
How much confidence do you have in a film forming finish [solid stains] being applied to a deck?

Re: Deck Washing Collegeville

I only like solid stains in one instance:

When a deck has been neglected so long and the home owner does not have the budget to do a full blown re-build. Anytime you have a solid put onto a walking surface there will be longevity issues. I always favor the clean/strip/pH balance/Oil based semi trans route, but the homeowner is the one signing the checks. I just do not warranty them to last like the life you get from a semi trans.

Re: Deck Washing Collegeville

Hello, I hope you don't mind me budding in. I too enjoy and appreciate refinishing nice decks. However, since my company primarily repaints condominium and townhome communities, we often have to refinish a large number of decks. Still have to do a nice job, but not to the extend of that required on a high end home. This past summer, one job was approx. 4500' of fence, another 800' of fence, another repaint that included 72 decks, and one more repaint with 21 decks and twelve three story stair casings. Both semi transparent and solid stains were used, depending on the project. Most of the work was completed using SuperDeck Semi Transparent Stain or Solid Siding and Decking Stain. Other projects were finished using Flood SWF-Solid stain. I've had the opportunity to review my work using the Flood's solid product from two years ago, and it looked great (two coats). The Flood's Semi Transparent Stain look great for two years, good the third, but does not refinish there after. I have yet to use Sherwin-Williams Deckscapes, but will have to use it at some point as I use their paint on most of my residential repaints. Have you tried these products? If so, how would you compare them to Deckscapes? Your decks looked nice. Did you use the oil based product or waterborne?
