Acid Stain

Pictures are worth a thousand words. This is an acid stain we just finished. The final product is very nice with some custom features including an abstract stripe and a custom "sun" medallion in the floor.

Re: Acid Stain

We also installed oak quarter round trim against all the tile and concrete for a smooth transition stained a dark red to compliment the floor.

Re: Acid Stain

Actually, the customer wanted the cracks left alone, and no matter what you do, the crack would be visible with acid stain, unless you do a complete overlay. You would notice any fillers that are used in the cracks because they would take stain differently.

Re: Acid Stain

Yea, I know....but I am shocked they still decided to go that route after seeing the cracking, that's all.
They must really like the look, to live with the cracks.

But I do know what you are saying, trying to fix the cracks would have most likely made the final product look worse.

Howd' you do the medallion, free hand or stencil?

Re: Acid Stain

Very nice!

I notice a lot of glare from the windows and lights. Is that permanent or is there something more that will happen, like more dry time, to make it less noticeable?

Re: Acid Stain

Thanks for the comments guys. This is a gloss finish on this floor, but these pictures were taken after only about 1 hour of dry time, so it will lessen some. It's not quite as shiny in person.

Re: Acid Stain

What brand of stain and sealers did you use? And how did you apply it?

Re: Acid Stain

Kemiko stains. Mostly applied by pump up sprayer some details done by sponge brush. Sealers were H&C Infusion water based sealers applied by roller and brush.
