Small Job, but fun

These folks asked me to put screen doors on the front of their 1812 farmhouse.

Sorry It's sideways, photobucket stymies me, I swear I rotated it 5 times.

I had to build the casing and mullion out to have enough depth to install the new doors. I had fun fitting the beaded mouldings together.

Here's everything painted and the mortar touched up, homeowner will repaint the doors to match the screen doors.

Finished pics inside and out w/ the screens mounted.

Nice, sometimes small jobs are good to do. In this case you could find yourself doing a lot of construction maintenance on an old historic house and it could lead it's way to bigger, better things.

I just happen to know from personal experience how true that is.

I had the doors and the mouldings made by a local woodworking shop. The masonary part of the threshold already extended out over an inch so I didn't have to fuss with it. The wooden threshold was beveled so I beveled the bottoms of the doors and the notches in the mouldings at the same angle.

Well done!

What is the purpose of the hardware at the bottom center of those doors?
I have never seen that before.

Orson,

Would you mind telling me the name of the road that this 1812 house is located on??

Just curious.

Thanks,

Les
