She said to pull it out - GULP!

I've got a customer wanting to remodel her old home. But, there is a catch! It is a 12x40 mobile home with a 14x35 addition.

Getting the trailer out, hopefully will be the biggest feat of the project. It's axles have been removed.

Anyone work on a project this fubar before and have any suggestions?

Pulling the frame out or half the 'house'?

We need a picture of the customer...maybe that would explain the 'why?'

Yeah, the trailer is still in tact (other than a big hole into the addition). The 12x40 trailer is slated to be pulled out and rebuilt.

The "plan" is, once the trusses are braced off to pull the walls and ceiling down onto the floor. Once it's clear, we'll pull it out.

As to a pic of the HO - Let's just say you MAY class her as a GYMWTF... not a MILF!

My girlfriend used to own a mobile home and she asked me one time if I could redo her bathroom. My response was "Don't people just pull these things out and drive them to the landfill and buy a new one and park it? You mean people actually stick money into these things?"

To the HO, it is worth the effort apparently. They may very well feel like they've just been on an extended version of Extreme Makeover. *shrugs*

Ok, point number 1. You can't drive a mobile home. Point number 2. They are essentially doing what you "thought" people did with them

First suggestion is a match

Second - instead of trying to collapse it on itself, can you setup some rails - jack it up a little & remove the blocking / cribbing - let it down & pull it straight out?

Sean, we (HO and I) completely agree. Her finances won't allow a complete tear down and new construction, unfortunately.

My original thoughts were to brace the ridge and tails, with a temp post and beam. Since the walls are physically attached on both sides of the trailer. Even in this plan the MH would have to be raised slightly and unblocked, then drug out.

Thanks for the thoughts for sure. Tomorrow I'll have a chance to demo what is needed, and know exactly what I'm working with.

RRRRUUUUNNNN!!!!!!!

I have had the displeasure of working on mobile homes before, and it never seems to go easy. No matter how easy the job may seem at first, I always swear to myself "NEVER AGAIN" but I just keep getting pulled back into them.

Same here Joel.
I've made decent money on the two I gutted and put it all back new... with decent materials. Both were for retired couples out in the booonies! It's not glamor work for sure.

Nuff said.

Didn't get the exterior corners off today. *ahem* HO is having second doubts.

I have a sure fire solution, should she not decide to demo it with a grapple and start over. We'll see how much the demo guys bid is.
