Re: Recent Baths

Great stuff!

Hey in this picture, what am I missing. It appears to be a Euro glass swing door hinged off the panel, with no header. Am I seeing that right?

Re: Recent Baths

Thanks Mike.

Yes, that enclosure has no head rail. It's clean but the stabilizer at the top of the fixed panel is a little clunky to me.

The fixed panel mounts to the wall rail and to the tub with a small u-channel.

Re: Recent Baths

OH! I didn't see that thing. That's what was throwing me off was how you were hinging off that panel, now that you said that I see that 'stabalizer' never seen one of those like that before either.

Last week I saw something new I've never seen before, I would describe it as a 'glass header', allowing you to have no header or stabalizer, looks something like this:

Re: Recent Baths

No, it's just a fixed glass panel connected to the other glass panel giving it stability by creating a link from one wall to the other and creating basically 1 panel of glass extending from wall to wall. I did a tour through a bunch of multi-million dollar homes and there were probably 10 bathrooms with tubs or showers using this look. It looks really good seeing it in person and I'll be incorporating it in some upcoming projects.

Re: Recent Baths

For years now they have been asking for
no headers.
So now I guess this will be the next fad.
"Glass headers."

I'm still puzzled by that "stabilizer"
thing-a-ma-bob.
Do you have a link that shows how
it's attached and what it does?

Re: Recent Baths

Here's the shower version from the manufacturer's website. It shows it a little better.

Re: Recent Baths

AAAAAh, so it does attach to the wall.
Just a glorified angle bracket really.
In your photos I could see it might be just
kinda floating or attached...either way.
Now I get it.

Re: Recent Baths

Chris, that is excellent craftsmenship! Did you install the MTI door?? If so how did it go. I looke at there site, they Get $3500+-, I saw it marketed under a different name on Overstock.com for $1500, I am 99% confident it is the same, I am planning on putting it into my new custom shower(once the market picks back up and I can justify it).

Re: Recent Baths

The brand we installed was Fleurco--MTI sells the identical unit under a different name.

I've also seen the ones on Overstock you mentioned--I'm fairly sure they're the identical unit.

I've installed two of these now, within the last 6 months, and they work very well and are very well engineered. The hardest part is getting the lower wheels to engage the bar tight enough to roll with the door.

They're definitely not inexpensive--but not nearly has costly as the price you mentioned. Was that a retail quote?

Re: Recent Baths

Good evening Cole,

Work has been very good...but I don't say that too loudly these days.

We're booked through May right now, with several good projects in the pipeline beyond that.

And you?

Re: Recent Baths

Was not a quote, just the retail price listed on the MTI site. Thanks for the input on the install, it will be the finishing touch on our shower!
