Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
Facelift????? Wallpaper removal, floor removal, upgrade electrical (even add can lights) Looks like a full blown remodel to me (ceramic and all). Looks good, clean and simple, nice job.

I'll say one thing...You had nowhere to go but up. What a sheet hole that place was when it started. (Hope it wasn't your own house...lol) Came out 10 million percent better, that's fo sho.

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
Actually, no wallpaper removal just over rocked 3 of the 4 walls. There were 4 layers of flooring that had to be ripped up. Other than that all that was added were the 4 cans. The kitchen table was fun...not.

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
That's odd. I'm using hickory in one of my remodels right now.
I find guys will like hickory but most women don't. Done the right way, I think it's very unique and I like it. Good job |

"The kitchen table was fun..... not."
I've done some like that, small islands also. On ceramic too. Then they want to throw in the kicker on you "try not to hurt the tile below, in case we want to move it someday". Then the husband will pull you aside and whisper "make it sturdy, I may want to throw the wife up on it sometime" Then I check out the wife...... man that thing is going to break . I tell them to order extra tile to replace under it if removed.

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
Nice job, but too bad you didn't have the electrician involved to bring all that up to current code and make it as modern as the rest of the kitchen.

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
Hey MD,
I always appreciate a pros' eye for things. What am I missing? I see new outlets and switches. GFCi's in a couple locations (probably protecting the others - or do they all need to actually be GFCI). Any setback requirements I'm missing also or something? Would always like to have problems pointed out from a pro. I'm also a home inspector and get some good info from you guys like this. It's hard (impossible) to know every rule/code from every trade, but I'm trying. Thanks |

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
No point along the counter's length is allowed to be more than 2 feet from a receptacle. This means that there must be one withing 2 feet from the ends and no more than 4 feet in between. This measurement "resets" every time you hit a stove or sink or something along those lines. That peninsula counter needs one on the wall or on its end as well.

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
Thanks MD,
That's exactly the kind of info I like to know (and need look for during inspections). Sorry, everyone, I wasn't trying to turn this into an electrical thread. |

Re: Quick Kitchen Facelift
I agree that there should have been 3 more recepticles installed along the backsplash, or atleast seperated the 2 cluttered ones on the left of the stove and installed 2 on the right side of the stove. But atleast the customer installed GFI's and he wasnt required to upgrade the electic. That 'peninsula' counter is actually a kitchen table, only at 30" to the top, and is surrounded by chairs only. It is not counter top space.
