the floor came out beautiful....thats actually eucalyptus flooring which is a relatively new, and "greener" type of wood flooring.

There are a multitude of reasons why I prefer that order of approach on our kitchens.

I will say that the flooring is usually installed after the bases have been set and before the appliances have been installed

That was derived from an idea that the homeowners and my cabinet designer agreed upon. Personally I think the wall cabinet should have been as wide as the peninsula.

I know the question was posted a while back... but...

1. So that the flooring can be replaced without removing cabinets. (in the case of a flood or just wanting to change flooring style)
2. So you don't damage flooring during cabinet installation.

If you notice in the cabinet install pics, AW attached skids to the bottoms of the cabinets to raise them to finished floor height. That allows dishwasher to go in under counter top and leaves the toe space at full height.
