Another kitchen done

Just finished another kitchen. I did most of the design layout, except for the tile backsplash. I followed HO's desire about 95%. I changed a few things but kept it to her specs...mostly.
Took just over 4 weeks.
Before and after....

nice, is that second oven a convection ? how did you support the countertop on the right side near the ovens? it looks from the photo like they are tight to each other.

It's actually just a standard microwave. This is the 2nd time I've used one. I know one of the higher-end manufacturers has one (Thermador?) but this is a nice option. The door opens like a conventional oven door (swing down) so it's perfect for under-cabinet mounting. This one was a particularly hard design because:
a) the husband wanted the wood hood
b) the husband needed a pull out drawer in the peninsula
c) the wife said no microwave hanging off the uppers
Actually, the HOs asked me to put it in the pantry to the right of the fridge!
Overall, I'm happy with it. I was not happy that I couldn't get the oven and micro lines even. The oven couldn't go up anymore because of the cooktop and the micro couldn't go down anymore because of the drawer. There is a lot of stainless in that one section but at that point, it became more about function than aesthetics.
The base cabinet for the micro is actually built that way. I had very little trimming to do so the right end was intact and structural sound. I did use extra bracing across the back, just for a little help. I built the entire oven cabinet myself so that thing would hold the house up if I needed it to! The outer part is just 3 fillers. Inside though, I built my own 2x4 frame the the oven sits within. The challenging part about the oven was it's size. That thing it HUGE!. I had to have my electrician come back and move its outlet to the micro cabinet since after the oven was slid in, there was MAYBE 3/8" behind it to the wall.

Those before pictures something looks funny with the doors. Is that one piece of ply with a groove for the door design? It's the grain of the wood that looks bizarre.

WOW, really beautiful work angus!! I too agree with you that it would have been preferable to have the stove, microwave and fridge all line up, but you work with what you have i suppose. I think also, for me anyway, asthetically it would have looked nicer for the outlets to have been up and down instead of side to side, but again, i can see why that was not an option. Don't mean for any of this to take anything away from your work though....really is great!!!!

I've heard that before from other guys outside of the Chicago area. I don't know why it's this way, but horizontal outlets are normal here. I guess since I grew up with them, they don't look odd to me. But since that's what my electrician gives me, and that's what the home owner expects, that's what they get.

On an Architectural and design standpoint, the horizontal outlets are perfect! When placed vertically, they break the linearity created by the undersides of the cabinets and the counter top. When placed horizontally as they are, the flow is more equalized. Looks great.

What's the deal with the electrical in the backsplash area? Looks like the boxes were set with a shotgun blast. Different heights, some horizontal.

Right....dang electricians!

The boxes on the sink wall were not changed. I dealt with what the original electrician gave me. Just the phone and coax were combined into the original phone location and the left double gang was dropped.
But you'll notice, I always level my switch covers!

Of course that's the first thing I noticed too. Looks like he's lacking a few as well. And that is meant strictly as constructive criticism.
