There's a house up north of me with a similar thatch roof. They tout it as a green home. Solar panels in the back yard. Little yard sign out front. It's pretty dam cool.

Good luck roofing it. Go into the sod business. It's got to be live, whatever it is?

Would love to have watched them put that one in.

Anyone have any experience with the "Green" flat roofs?

Have yet to see one up close, but they're planted with sod I believe...

It does look like palm leaf doesn't it? I wish I had pictures of the two Tiki bars we did. but my ex partner kept his cell phone pics. I had to rent a 14 foot van to pick up the palm leaves in pennsy from "Tiki Kev". I cannot imagine how many trailer loads of palm leaves that house has if it is in fact palm leaves.

No offense, but it looks like a McMansion for really tall hobbits.

Thatched roofing at least some variety of it.
Simple once you know how to do it.
Very rudimentary style.

If you look at the discolorations, you'll see where it needs to get "dressed" up.
There is this paddle like tool with metal strips that you use to break the reeds then dress them up by tucking it in with the paddle.
Then you brush off the excess and "wala!"...You have a new roof surface.

Re: Glad I'm A Framer - I Could Not Roof This

I've done two green roofs this past year, won't be planted until late this spring when things dry up tho. I've got pics somewhere of complete ones we've done, dunno which computer they are on though.

That roof is beautiful, odd that its in this neck of the woods tho. especially over on the rusty side of the state.

that roof looks very nice, but I wonder how it would act under freeze-thaw conditions, ice accumulation, etc.

I don't think it would work in my area, the humidity today was 7% with the wind blowing. Wouldn't take long for it to be kindling.

I do hope the chimney is not for a wood burning stove or fireplace.

, greenies dont burn wood, they hug it to keep warm. That is probably a chimney for their fossil fuel burning butt warmer.
