Sweet, i would be interested in learning copper/sheet metal work. How is the copper attached the roof.. How do you keep the hem or raised section clean with a curve, a series of cuts?
They did one like that in my area... FWIW

Re: Copper Pavilion Roof

Are you going to let it patina naturally or will you spray a patina on?

I have done spray and sponge work for copper patinas.
It is a lot of fun...then I find painting to be fun too.

Weird huh?

Andy.

We use copper "clips" and nails. The clips are 1"x4" copper strips that are nailed to the sheathing with copper nails. The next panel covers it and the clip gets then rolled into the seam.

We don't cut the seam. They're either stretched or shrunk to fit the curve.

That one will age naturally. We're patinating some chimney caps now. I'll try to remember to post some photos before we ship them out. Not our favorite thing to do.

CU, I'd very much like to hear what you use to patina the copper and how you do it :-)

We use a manual seamer to close the seams, but all the bends are done on the brake.

Re: Copper Pavilion Roof

I was hoping when we framed this bell tower that it would be topped with copper. They cheaped out and shingled it.

What do you mean by manual seamer?

We do a lot of standing seam roofs, never copper though. Ours are always mechanically seamed. Usually large warehouses or factories and use a 24" trapezoidal panel, sometimes an 16" architectural panel on a front facade or office area.

How long do you let it sit CU? I'll be tuned in when you post the pics, haven't has much success trying to patina, the times I've tried it.

Just apply it and leave it. Apply again if it's not turned enough. We don't patina very often - usually just range hoods or other indoor items.
