Tgeb,
I think they use Rain-X.

Shamrock,
Good thing sea snakes mouths are extremely small. You sound like you were a pioneer if you were there in '72.

Back then it was a dirt runway for the airstrip and the pilot had to fly over once to get people to clear the field. The plane was always a old DC-3 which we would take out of Oaxaca....held about 26 people...surfboards would be stacked down the aisle making an emergency exit next to impossible.. First time there I had absolutely no idea that sea snakes were quite common in those waters...scared the hell out me when one slittered across the nose of my board.

Something interesting you might want to try if you get a chance. I picked up one of those Salomons (a 7'0" Rusty shape). Weighs about half what a normal board weighs. Hollow carbon fiber shell with three foam stringers inside and then a thin layer of foam glued to the exterior of the carbon fiber shell. Other than being extremely strong and light, it feels identical to a regular foam board...same sort of flex and everything. If you didn't know what it was made of, you'd never suspect it wasn't a regular board (other than the light weight). I've used it all summer and not so much as one dent on the deck. Give one a go if you get a chance!!

Re: For Your Viewing Enjoyment

I heard the plane used to be full of cows and pigs.

Yeah, the new technology in boards has come a long way. A couple buddies of mine have the new epoxy boards and love them. Super strong......just like you said. Personally I prefer traditional blanks and poly resin boards.

This is a dangerous assumption to make with any snake. You have to remember, their jaws unhinge, and most snakes mouth and head can open to 90 degrees. A common myth with coral snakes is they can only bite you in small areas of skin like between the fingers. All snakes swallow their prey whole and can open their jaws quite wide allowing them to bite you wherever they see fit...not to mention very quickly at that.

Btw, very cool video.
