If you really don't want to plow the same field again, just ingnore the thread and let the new guys work on it.

I think a newbie is only in relation to new on the site. Nothing more or less...not the post count...just since they registered....I see a lot of members who may not have 30 posts but they have been here 2 years or more.
I'll 2nd that notion.

Re: You Define Newbie

What if a seasoned veteran contractor who has 30 years of experience in his trade, joins this forum? He contributes volumes of informative advice within 50 posts. Will he be considered a newbie?
I don't think so...

I like the one about contributing info instead of asking for it. Although I have been on "boards" since the mid ninties, and have tens of thousands of posts in total across them, each board you join has a particular status known as "newbie". Maybe it has something to do with having posted enough that in the obtuse medium known as "the internet", the particpants will have a feel for what you mean without you having to write 10 paragraphs to explain it.

My dilemma is this. If I answer a newbies question with a truly brilliant reply will I be branded as a frickin know it all. Cause lets face it...I'm seldom wrong, and often brilliant.

Newbie -

Anyone who asks you to research and price their bids for them:
"How much for a deck, 14x20, 4x4 posts, 2x2s on 2x4s, etc, etc?"
"How much do you guys charge for xyz?

Anyone who doesn't get that sales reps are not welcome here:
"I just love working with Tiger Claws, my brother's sister's grandma can build decks in her sleep using the TC-13h8 whatever..."

YES! I think you hit the nail on the head. Although if you look at my first few posts I think I had a few of those questions...

EDIT: What does FNG mean?

FNG = frickin ( you know the other word!) new guy, term I heard applied to new troops in Vietnam, still used when I was in the Army many years later.

Your not a newbie anymore when you can take Peladu's comments with a grain of salt
