Would You Take Canadian Money?

Is Canadian money worth anything to an American?

Curious if you would take Canadian currency as payment.

The Canadian dollar is now equal to the American dollar. Heard it the other day.

Now, it's worth exactly the same as American cash!

I usually don't take any currency as payment though, so the answer to your second question is no. Although I am heading up to BC next month for a vacation, so I could blow a few Loonies and Toonies on good Canadian beer!

Coins have always been accepted at face value here in Maine. Quarters for quarters. I moved out to WA state and they threw a fit. "WTF??? What are you trying to pull son?" Threw me for a loop. I never thought twice about it.

I've never seen paper though, just coins.

I don't see this lasting too long before it swings back again. Not as extreme as it once was (65 cents per $1 in 2001!), but around 90 cents seems about right.

Mac, enjoy the beer. But I have to say, some of the big Canadian brands are complete crap!!! Go for the local brews. Or try some imports. Actually, the imports will probably be from your home state

But the colours are so pretty, and who doesn't like walking around with 100 lbs of coins in their pocket that adds up to what $ 75.00?

Ya, the coins...the biggest benefactors of those things are the panhandlers on the street.

Oh, believe me, I'll start by looking for the micro brews. Living in the Northwest has spoiled me on good beer for life! I'd bring some up to share with new friends but haven't crossed a national border in 6 years... I don't want to slow up my vacation with a cavity search 'cause I had beer in my trunk!

Victoria and Vancouver, BC - it's a one-day drive and the wife wants to show me the town. She's been up to Vancouver before and really liked the place.

Since I've started this business, the only time I seem to be able to make a hole in my schedule is late Fall/early Winter. We've done past Thanksgivings in Vegas, Phoenix and in the middle of the Carribean!

And just getting away for a while will be worth it. It's been a crazy summer with a couple of monster projects that really tested me. I am stronger for it but damn, man, it took a lot out of me.
My plan is to be lazy, make love like crazy and let my mind get hazy (at least for a couple of days!)

Where are you located?

I'm up in Courtenay, about three hours north of Victoria. You might get lucky, there's Indian summer to hope for, have a good rest, Rich.
