I always expect crew members to stay home if they've any creepy crawlies. You'll ruin production for two to three weeks while everyone gets over it. Plus, I don't want to get it - I got kids for cryin' out loud, I don't need your germs.

I try to stay home for the same reason.

Re: What To Do When You're Sick

It wasn't the flu which would be the only thing that would really keep me home (I wouldnt' want to risk passing on potential swine flu to anyone). Airborne actually got sued because the product made false claims about what it does. I think a lot of the "great effects" it produces has a lot to do with the placebo effect. It does have a lot of vitamins which is obviously good for your immune system, but I don't think it's as great as everyone makes it out to be.

On another note, I would have told you to stay home. I don't need someone infecting a whole crew with a virus. Unless it was outdoors, then you passing it on is less risky.

The whole work it out/sweat it out
thing is B/S, and has been dis-proven.
Even the Army doesn't allow physical training
with a fever over 100 any more, since
it has killed some other wise health kids.
Besides, once your brain gets over 100º
your thought process becomes heavily suspect.

I can certainly agree with the work part of that statement. Your body needs as many resources as possible to fight off the bug. Though you'll most likely be more miserable sitting at home having a pity party than if you were busy at work.

But as for sweating it out in bed, that does seem to help for me. Or maybe it's just the fact that I'm resting instead of working. <shrug>

Re: What To Do When You're Sick

For the guys who work outside all the time, I don't think working with someone who is sick is a big deal. Its not like were working right next to each other. Every guy has to know what works best for him when trying to decide whether to stay home or not. Bottom line for me usually is: Do I wanna be sick at home and not get paid, or sick at work and get paid. Luckily I dont get real sick all that often. I have had a few real doozies though including Meningitis and Staph infection. I didn't stay home then either. Hospital doesn't count as stayin home!

What I was referring to is a jock myth
about bundling up and working out to
"sweat it out of your system."
Home in bed is the place to sweat it out.
