Re: What To Do About Phishing Scam

It's PHishing ...not Fishing.

Phishing is when a person sends you something (could be an email, a virus/trojan, etc) in an attempt to get you to send them your password/account number for AOL; credit card; bank account; eBay; PayPal; etc.

Framer...when I get them from douche bags saying they need my account/pw for Bank of America (or some other institution I don't do business with), I forward the email to that particular institutions security department. Places like eBay and PayPal ~ spoof@ebay.com spoof@paypal.com.
I get a huge amount of this crap.

EDIT TO ADD:
Phishing even has it's own "symbol" ~ <*))))< (or something that resembles that...a "phish")

Oh, I get them a couple times a week. Western Union wants me to provide my details so they can up-date an account that I never had. PayPal wants me to verify my account which I have yet to do with the real Paypal.

There is such a thing as a fishing scam.... We were on a boat a few weeks ago and the captain fished the whole time instead of taking care of our bait and netting our fish. $900 for the day so he could fish.----Thats a fishing scam!

The captain drives the boat or fishes when at anchor. The mate is the Master Baiter and Beverage Fetcher. You were not scammed, just ill served.

It's called spam. You'll get a lot of that on the internet.

I get at least one an hour. I just delete it and move on with my life.

Chances are the place they are trying to phish is already aware of it and working on it. Not much you can do except don't be stupid enough to fall for it.

The regular captain of the boat drives, cuts bait, nets large fish, and takes them off the hook if you are a wimp. Our guy was just someone he hired to drive his boat on his off days. So when we paid for a grade A fishing trip and got a grade F fishing trip....it was a scam. I actually had a blast catching fish and listening to the other guys whine about the service. I think part of the issue was with the captain catching most of the fish.

I would get back on topic but the topic is "fishing scam".

no, this isn't spam, it's someone trying to extract financial info from me. Spam is delete, someone trying to get my money or info about how to get my money by being fraudulent is criminal. This was listed as Bank of America and a place to sign in with my password.

It goes way behind spam.

A "spammer" is trying to sell you something - peni enlagement or viagra.

A "phisher" is trying to rob you.
"Phishers" will have a website that looks very similar to a legit website - WITH a log-in area to garnish your PW/UN; account number/pin; etc

Re: What To Do About Phishing Scam

I take it there were no mates aboard, DougChips? Expectations not meeting reality does not mean it is a scam. You chartered a boat to go fishing, you fished, and anything else is a detail of service. That is not a scam, just poor service.

A scam would be that you pre-charter a 36' Bertram in Costa Rica, and arrive to find a panga.

This still qualifies as junk email. Delete it, move on.

Drift fishing so the captain has nothing to do while we are fishing. The regular captain acts as a mate.
