I was watching a documentary on the tube the other night. Ends up way back in 91 all the major phone companies lobbied the FCC so they could charge ya 5.98 each for the little special quirks like call waiting. The FCC said no way because it cost less than a cent to provide. So the phone companies countered with, we need it to upgrade everyone to fiber optics and wiz the good old USA into the 21st century cyber world. The FCC was amazed with the ($$$) excitement behind the development of these future programs and said why stop there, here's some tax cuts to help out!

That was 91 and not one phone company has complied and not one regulator has even asked why.

So I'm told, if you want download the library of congress on our current system......it takes 82 years. If you go to Japan, it takes 42 seconds.

Didn't some one mention Rome in another thread?

Phone Co.'s quietly ditched fiber optics a few years ago as a dead end technology that was being leapfrogged by newer tech
They knew everything was going wireless

Oh, they still said "yeah, yeah, we're on it", and kept a few people and fiber around for show but dropped all the real funding

It's a secret though, so they still get their tax breaks

My cable goes FO at the end of the street. Big box down there, I think that they are shuffling hardware off of Huthchinson Island. Stupid place for it anyway.
