The Trip To WalMart
This is how dumb things have become. I don't know if this is just Maine or everywhere.
My wife goes to WalMart today with my son, he's 13. He's saved up his money to buy himself a video game. So he wants to get Crysis, nice violent video game. I have no problem with it, my wife doesn't either. Hell, I probably will play it too. I make sure my son realizes the difference between idiotic fantasy and real life, so I have no problem with this. He grabs it and heads on up to the counter. He is with my wife who is purchasing whatever she's purchasing, they are together. Cashier says he can't buy it because he's not 17. Fair enough, true, no problem. My wife grabs it and puts it with her stuff. "No can do" says the cashier. ![]() Not sure the deep seeded reason why, because my wife, the gentle creature she is, is so ticked off, she can't believe it, she's flabbergasted. Something about him being in the presence of the cashier. What on earth does it matter. I go out the door, turn around, come back in and buy it, same thing, just being a PITA WalMart. Whatever law this is, it's beyond dumb. Next, she finds out from my daughter (15) that "underage" people cannot buy a cigarette lighter. WTF??? Did I miss something at the town meeting? My wife and daughter are going to challenge the lighter thing and test it. They're going to start with a barbecue lighter first, then try with a cigarette lighter, then matches. Oh man, I'm going to this ballgame!

Re: The Trip To WalMart
My oldest went to Louisiana for spring break. Her group went to do work in hurricane areas. She forgot her wallet! But in her pack she had:
1. Her Bank of America checkbook 2. Her U.S. passport Apparently there are no Bank of Americas in Louisiana. At any rate she couldn't find one. No problem, Walmart cashes checks, even from out of town. She'll go to Walmart. They won't cash her check. Not because it's out of town, but because they won't take a US passport for ID - only a driver's license. A Florida driver's license would be OK, but not a US passport.

It's going on everywhere! Can't buy spray paint if you're under 18, If I'm in line with my wife and want to by beer, they ask for her ID every time! If she doesn't have it on her she goes to get it if it's close by or I put it back

Re: The Trip To WalMart
I went to a Sheetz store once with the guys and they all got something to eat and drink. I put my beer and sandwich on the counter and said "I'll pay" Then the cashier asked how old one of my guys were. he said 18 which he was. The cashier wont sell me the beer because he is with me! Talk about teed off? i asked her well what happens if say I have my 6 year old grandson and I want a beer. She said he would have to waite in the car. I said well what do I tell the police then? She said why would the police ask anything? I said well if someone sees a child in a car unattended wouldent they call the police? so to end it all I asked her if she was going to sell me the beer, she said no, so I told everyone to leave their ordered sandwiches on the counter (Probably 20.00 worth of unreturnable food) and walked out.

Re: The Trip To WalMart
No it's not limited to Maine, a few weeks ago my girlfriend went to Jewel/Osco to get some non-alcoholic drink mix, they wouldn't allow her to purchase it because it was before noon on a Sunday (Can't sell alcohol before noon on Sundays out here) and it was in the alcohol section, she tried to explain to them that it was not alcohol but she would have had better luck explaining it to a rock.
On my last two trips to the Pep Boys auto parts stores there were eager employees waiting to help me find what I needed, they couldn't find and told me they must not carry the items (a broken tail light temporary tape and a 5/8" to 5/8" male adapter for heater hose), I looked myself, found both items and showed the employees where they were. You would think that someone that spends 8 hours a day in the store would know where everything is. .

You can thank the Patriot Act for the ID hassles.

But...but... A US PASSPORT??????
That's the golden ticket! I guess Walmart figures their personnel are too stupid to be able to vet a passport. |

Wal-Mart wouldn't sell my 15 year old son a copy of "Shotgun News" magazine, yet he can go back to the sporting goods department and buy his own hunting license.

![]() ![]() You guys must not have any kids? Pain in the ass or not - sometimes I don't have time to go to the pharmacy, the hardware store, and the grocery store. I hate it, but Wal Mart is what it is. Quick and easy. mark |

Re: The Trip To WalMart
I'm so glad Wal-Mart and others are looking out for our children. I'd hate to think we have to raise them ourselves. Isn't that why we pay taxes? So 13 year olds can be tried as adults, but be unable to buy a magazine that discusses the price of guns?
We really seem to have our priorities mixed up at times as a Nation.

Re: The Trip To WalMart
I was in a gas station a few months ago, and they have the display of cheap pocket knives on the counter- I see a weird one and ask to see it- I need to show an ID in order to even touch a pocket knife- never mind the fact that I have two clipped in my pocket (folding utility knife and regular pocket knife), and one on my belt.
A friend of mine is helping to run an Elk Foundation raffle where they are raffling off a rifle. They have to do a background check on every person, before they can buy a raffle ticket. WTF? I got pulled over last year, the cop not only took my license, registration, and insurance, but also my passenger's id. A guy I was working with went into a gas station to buy beer. Gets carded, pays for his beer, turns to leave, realizes he is out of smokes, turns around and asks for smokes- the woman cards him again. Short term memory problems? |

Re: The Trip To WalMart
All of this is called "progressive enforcement". Make it so damn hard for people to exist the way they choose that the Government must step in and create a solution.
Within the next year, the Federal ID will begin to circulate. Then "The Chip". http://www.news.com/Passports-to-get...3-5913644.html http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59690 http://www.tldm.org/News4/MarkoftheBeast.htm The real story is here: http://zeitgeistmovie.com/
