Re: Thinking About A Dog

Dogs are cool ! Man, you give them 5 cents of attention. They give you a dollar back. I love the hell out of my dogs. My dogs are family members !

Don't mess with my dogs. (not that any of you would).

Whoever coined the phrase "mans best friend" had it right on !

Dogs are cool...

I also have an aquarium full of African Cichlids. They're allright
And ......My wife and daughter have 2 cats They're allright

Re: Thinking About A Dog

An interseting dog story,

My shepperd mix use to go to work with me,rode in the back of the pickup.

One day while grabbing supplies at a lumber yard,I was getting ready to check out when I noticed she had discovered the automatic door and proceeeded to join me in my wait.

In front of me was a young lady in hot pants(this was back in the 80"s).

Well ,someone put their cold nose where it had no business going, and I missed a slap in the face by a split second decision to DUCK!!!!!!

I haven't figured out the picture thing yet on forums so I hope that link works! I can set the resolution to 480 and whatever but they are still too large files..
Anyway.. N8 "bull mastiffs" are a breed you should look into.
Big dogs but they can be just as happy running around outdoors as sitting at your feet inside.
Not the smartest for fancy training but very food motivated for basics.
They are not barkers for no reason and maybe not the best watchdogs-we used to joke that if someone broke in to the house at night "chance" would bring them a "stuffy"
She had to present everyone with one of her stuffed animals and if she could not find one she would find anything to give ... a smelly sock .. a dish towel.. a piece of 80 grit sandpaper < see pic if it does load

Re: Thinking About A Dog

I have a black lab, Buddy, his main problems are he will eat anything, and I mean anything. I have actually chased him through the house with a rubber glove on trying to pull a rope that was hanging out of his rear. He also enjoys eating crayons, I always know which dog a pile of poop belongs to, Buddy's is always colorful. He also likes to dig, I took the overhead wires down from my garage and ran them underground, Buddy keeps digging up my conduit for me. He drinks out of our pool and toilet, no matter how much water I give him, he enjoys toilet and pool water better I guess.
He is a good dog though, he loves the kids and is totally house broken, I am hoping he out grows a few of his bad habits as he gets older.
My other dog is a mutt, looks like he may have collie and german shepard in him, but who knows. I got him from the pound and he is by far the best dog I have ever had. He protects the house and the kids and would fight anyone to the death doing it. I am the only one allowed to spank any kids at my house, he will not allow my wife to do it. His name is Joe, I can take him for walks with no leash and he will not leave my side.
When Joe was younger he was a handful though, he would run away to the park behind our old house every chance he got. He was one of those little bastards who wait untill you almost get ahold of them then bolt away. He also used to have a digging problem. Many times I threatend to have his front legs removed to solve his running off and digging problem. I guess he finally grew up though, now he leaves all of that foolishness to Buddy.

Re: Thinking About A Dog

Mike-is that a tri-colored Aussie?

I have an Aussie and my son has a pit bull. I swear that pit is the most loveable, personable, smart dog. I absolutely was against him getting it, but I was wrong, this dog is like our 4th child.

I would vote for a pit if you want an intimidating looking, loyal and loving dog, just don't dive in without research. Check your city laws and research the breeder and absolutely get a puppy.

My Aussie is another story, she is stubborn and does require a lot of attention. Luckily I enjoy her company and take her everywhere with me. A Frisbee and an Alfalfa field will wear her out though. Oh yeah, no one is coming near my truck. You would think she was a Rottweiler - she is not nice if you come near the truck. She also enjoys herding "anything".

When the time comes to think of another dog (long from now I hope), I am going to seriously check out Cane Corso's.

You sound like a 3 year old Black lab type of guy to Me. Do it-you won't regret it.

Re: Thinking About A Dog

I takes a special kind of person to sex a snake. It takes a special, mildly retarded kind of person to sex a venemous snake. Snakes don't like it. At all.

The video was informative, but if I ever need a snake sexed I'm calling a CL handyman and paying him $20 to do it.

Supposedly you sex 20', 3000 pound salt water crocodiles the same way.

My neighbor has dogs.

In addition to the incessant barking, it's near 2300 and all 5 of them are still going strong, they enjoy doing the following on a regular basis:

****ting in my driveway and yard

Digging up the landscaping by my driveway

Jumping the 42" fence by the alley and emptying my trashcans all over the street

The yellow labs idea of a good time is climbing on my landscaping trailer and chewing a $26.00 spool of weedeater string to pieces

Digging under the fence and into my yard, where they proceed to demolish my garden

The rottweiler enjoys climbing onto the hood of my truck to sunbathe. Scratch city.

The owner takes absolutely no responsibility whatsoever. "They're dogs, it's what they do. I can't help it".

However if I get pissed and beat one of the mutts to death with a Structron round point shovel all of a sudden I'm the one with a problem.

I'm kind of anal. I want my house and my stuff to be just so. I didn't buy a $175,000 house so I could listen to her ******* dogs barking all ****ing night. I want some ******* peace and some ******* quiet.

That is a funny caption...
My wife enjoyed it also

We lost her in March...she was about 7 yrs old ..just dropped to the ground and was having trouble breathing and couldn't move...a quick trip to the emergency vet,an xray and a few shots...
It was about an hour and a half from normal dog to me digging a hole...
fun day..........

The new dog is an "english mastiff" at about 165lbs.
Thats a lot of dog..I call her with our old dogs name several times a day.
