Re: Thinking About A Dog

hey nEighter, I notice your in the Olathe area. If you want I can let you check out my Pitbull. Just got him 2 weeks ago, hes potty trained, knows his new name, and is very gentile. I got him from a local breeder as well.

He is not a traditional APBT which is a working dog that needs a ton of exercise, hes a bully (razors edge/Juan Gotti) and they "bullys" are bred more for asthetics and gentile attitude.

The dog is a lazy bones, just wants to be loved eat and sleep. He's a beaut and goes everywhere with me or the wife.

Hes not for sale but i noticed you didnt mention pits, and I for one think they are the best dogs in the world. Bar none.

I can also recommend a pit/boxer at I believe its wayside Waifs, she's three years old and I think her name is Daisy. Beautiful well mannered dog.

PM me if you want to check Prince out. We are pretty close to you. He's awesome.

Agreed, mine sleeps in her cage every night. I do not put her in it anymore, she just goes there by herself and I do not lock her in. Thats the first place she heads when she knows she is in trouble too.

She has it pretty good though, there's a giant bean bag in there for her to seep on.

Some dogs take alot of patience. Be prepared to spend ALOT of time with them if you want to have a well behaved animal.

Get a breed that suits your own lifestyle.

Re: Thinking About A Dog

Thanks for all the replies! It is something I have thought about for quite some time and now I am investigating. When I was framing with a crew the owner had a dog that came with him everyday to work. Thought that was pretty cool. He mostly just layed under the car and slept. Every once in a while we would have to go searching for him but for the most part stayed close to the site. Thought about bringing it along but it might not be a good idea since most of the work I do now is in residential areas, not lots/areas under development.

Re: Thinking About A Dog

Thanks, thats Lola Belle (I am not allowed to name anything at my house)

She's an American Bulldog. About 125lbs. now. She is super lovey, sometimes annoyingly. She loves kids, all kids. Not fond of too many dogs.

Best alarm system you can have at home. Eats about 50 pounds of food a month, 27 bucks, buy 5 get 1 free.

Got to have fenced in yard. Lazy yet, rambunctious. She is a good dog, you have to be very repetitive with a bully breed dog.

Next dog will be a Great Dane.

I hate little dogs, I want to kick them as much as I want to kick cats.

Re: Thinking About A Dog

On the boy or girl thing...its a toss up I think.

Me personally I've always had male dogs due to the fact that female dogs often get "bitchy" about territory etc when other dogs are in the house. This is just my experience with the dogs in my extended family.

Males tend to be more laid back in general I think. All dogs have an Alpha thing but females are really bad about it.

On the flip side, Males will mark if not neutered. This has its plusses too though, If you take your dog for walks he will piss and piss and piss on everything even if hes got nothing to shoot he'll still lift his leg lol. So you know hes draining all that out so you can now go back home and get drunk and not worry about him pissin in the house. hahaha

LOL yeah I have walked the neighbors dogs...er they walked/pulled me more than a few times!

Funny a buddy of mine has german short haired pointers. They are both female. When he has a girl come over you would think that dog is another human female.. talk about caddy in a dog type of way. They would be laying together and she would come up and wedge right inbetween them.. claiming her master.. and then when she has to move is even funnier.. like you can see her thoughts/emotions!

If you get a girl get her fixed if you do not plan on having puppies. It's a bloody mess.

Make sure you have a good floor, aquariums are heavy.

Bob,

Fish are food, not pets.

My dog comes with me to work just about 5 days a week, depending on what's going on. He's practically a celebrity. If I don't take him inside some vendor's places they get upset. If I could get 1/10 of the female attention this boy gets!

If the customer is the right kind he'll go to the job site and hang out.

The job we are on now is a repeat customer and the day we started the wife came out and grabbed my dog and took him inside. I've had that happen a bunch of times, and it still kind of shocks me. It's kind of weird to walk in and out of a customers house while you are working there and see your dog sleeping in their living room, or out in their back yard.

Dogs are great, lots of fun and I can't imagine life without one.

Boy or girl? I like boys just cause they do the pitch'in. Wouldn't save one from the pound, too many people I know have psycho dogs all from the pound. I like pure breeds and also only get puppies, I want to train em right from the git go. 4 weeks is all it takes and they are set for life. Way easier to train a puppy.

Female dogs will leave dead grass spots on your lawn,if that's a consideration.

Had a great female dog once.Seven years old and never had a litter.

Left her with good friends during one extended vacation, and the police were called to their house because the road was swarming with male dogs. The cars couldn't get by.
By bthe time I got back, she dropped 9 puppies.
Suprise !!!

OP
Kids love dogs and dogs love kids. The little aggravation they may cause now and then will be be offset by all their good points.
Hardest thing is finding the right dog.
We tried Dog Rescue, but some we're either abused or sickly.
Pet stores are questional.
Overbread dogs are a handfull.
Mutts seem to be a good choice.
