Teenagers....

To any of you all with teenagers...

Do your kids have friends who call around to all their friends to find out who's having the best supper, and they magically appear at your house for supper if you're having something good? This has been going on for months at my house. Before me or the wife cook supper, we sorta have to poll all the kids to find out how many people we might be having for supper. I certainly don't mind, but I've never heard of such a thing. I never called around to find out what's on the menu at my friends houses when I was a teenager. Just wondering if it's a common thing nowadays, or if we're just running some kind of homeless soup kitchen for teens?

Kids...

Tell your kids ahead of time you are serving muskrat or something and see if they go elsewhere that night.. Save yourself some food money

Re: Teenagers....

Tonight, for instance, we had smoked pork chops, rice, and corn. Certainly nothing fancy. There were 7 kids here, and only 3 of them were mine. I'm pretty sure the one boy lives here at the house someplace, since he's always here. I just havn't figured out where he hides at night. It's pretty normal to get a phonecall about 8 or 8:30 starting with "Is so-and-so still at your house?"

You got any chops left?
I'm not too far away, and we're about to have leftover hotdogs!

Oh, and I'm not too-far past a teen myself, if I shave quickly, maybe I can fit in! LOL

Re: Teenagers....

I remember those days well but I like to cook. Here, we would have the smoked porkchops, throw the trinity and maybe a touch of Tabasco into the rice and cook the corn with a smoked hamhock and butter.

A lot of kids hung out late hoping to be invited to supper.

Worst was when my nephew was in town. He was 6-5 and 275# at 15, he also had a few friends just like him. That's when you cooked the whole pig, the whole bag of rice and a couple dozen ears of corn aaaaannnnndd they'd be hungry again a few hours later.

It wasn't unusual to go through $100 of food in a day.

What until they get older and they call around to see who has the best wine cellar. It is amazing what connoisseurs the blue haired little beggar can be......
