Sunday Evening Telemarketing Call

Received a call this evening at 6:15 Eastern from a guy claiming to have seen my profile on ContractorTalk.com. I did not listen to what he was hawking so I ended the conversation rather quickly. The call came from Banning, Calif.

The strange part is my phone number is not listed in my profile.

What a PITA.

Anyone else getting this type of call???

Putting it very nicely. I strongly dislike telemarketers!! Even more so when they call on a Sunday evening when I am sitting down for supper.

You on the national "Do Not Call" list? I'd recommend it if you are not.

Been there for a while and renew frequently.

But that does not apply to business calls. Business to business calls are fair game for these guys.

I get those from time to time, last one was from some Yellow Book something or other. He wanted to confirm my address so he could invoice me. I told him I wasn't in his book.

Be careful because they could ask you a question, and if you say "yes that's the right address they record the yes and you just legally bought something.
Thank the lawyers for that.

I had one a month or so ago claiming to have found me on CT. I knew it was BS when he didn't have my trade right.

I had one last year who admitted he didn't even know what an ICF was but had clients for me...

I get those calls when I just happen to be in the office. I explain very quickly that "I do not give out any information over the phone to people I do not know." And I don't care if you just introduced yourself!!!!

Same here, they told me they had lots of people looking for contractors, so I asked them if they knew what I did and they answered something like,"Yeah, you remodel houses right"?
Wow, that covers it I guess.

Got a similar call during the work day about two weeks ago. Said they were referred by CT and my directory listing. Some "exclusive" offer, when I asked how it could be exclusive if he's gonna offer the same thing to the next guy on the list, his supervisor got on the line and wanted to argue semantics. Even called me back a minute after telling them "not interested". Had to call them back just to make sure I hadn't bought any of their services and demanded to be removed from their call list.

I liked the TM call I got recently wanting to sell me on service or replacement (I don't know-I don't really listen, I just hang up) on my septic tank.
I've never owned a house with a septic tank.

I politly ask for their home phone number. That causes them to pause, and ask why I want their home number. I tell them that I just sat down for dinner, but I do want to talk to them. I am really interested in their product, but after dinner I will going on an evening job, but if they will tell me their home number, we can continue the conversation later. Of course they will not tell me their home number, because they don't want their dinner interuppted. That is I when ask why the hell I want my dinner interrupted. Then I tell them according to Oregon Law, I can sue them and get my shop rate of $100.00 per hour, My attoryny will get his shop rate of $250.00 + expenses. Or they can take me off the list. I let them know I have a file of telemarketers and at the second phone call, my attorney gets the list. I then ask for their name and the supervisors name, company name, address, phone and fax numbers. usually they hang up before I get done with my spiel.
