Stop Smoking

Well one of my new years resolutions was to Stop Smoking.

Only been a couple of days but so far so good.

I had some one come around me with a cig today and it actually made me nauseous.

Only side effect so far. I have been eating everything in Sight. I am hungry 24/7

Re: Stop Smoking

Congrats - They say it gets easier when you get past 3 days

Try some hard candy (something in the mouth, helps some with the hunger) & of course exercise

Stopping is on my list also, but the last few times I nearly killed a few people. I might have to take a 2 week vacation where I can't get smokes.

Re: Stop Smoking

Good job! Keep it up!

I've been toying with the idea myself lately, but I still kinda like it, sometimes.

I will venture a guess and say it is more of a hand/mouth habit rather than actual hunger.

Hang in there....as an ex-smoker, I can tell you it is worth it. Gum, mints, m-m's......toothpick.....anything you can to break the need, and then modify the behavior.

The killer is the habit of reaching for one, and wanting one.

Re: Stop Smoking

It's my New Year plan as well. I've been on the drugs like Wellbutrin, they don't agree with me at all. I was seeing dead relatives every time I went to sleep and weird junk like that. And the gum and patch literally make me puke.
I have an appointment at the VA in about a week, they have a whole program now that doesn't involve drugs. I'm going to give it a shot.
I'm bad news when I try to quit, I may have to be quarantined or something.

Good on ya Rory, keep it up. My girlfriend quit and she said after a few days, it was a lot easier, like SLS said.

Re: Stop Smoking

I "heard" from a health nut that he helped his brother quit by buying him a few boxes of spicy (cinnamon?) tooth picks and his brother also rubbed liquid cinnamon on his upper lip. He said it really helped. Sounds weird but might help someone out.

Thanks Guys

I have had very few cravings and no mood swings to my knowledge. I have been hungry and will have to start exercising again soon. The calorie consumption is through the roof

Dude, just stick with it. I quit four years ago and gained at least 30 lbs but it is well worth it. No longer do I wake up in the morning coughing and grasping for air. All I can tell you is one day at a time. And if you smoke while drink (who doesn't, or didn't when they used to smoke), well then for christ's sake lay off the booze for awhile too. Everytime I think about lighting up I look up at the nasty tarred-up under side of a cabinet here at my desk and think twice.

Good luck - you can do it brother!

Wellbutrin was the medicine for me. It's what got me over the hump. I was on it for 3 months and when I stopped taking it I did have a slight depression from it but nothing major.

Re: Stop Smoking

Big strong mug of coffee and an American Spirit yellow first thing in the morning.
That morning thing is the hardest time for me not to have a smoke.

Congrats! I quit 10 years ago when I was 21.

After awhile you begin to realize how disgusting those things really are, and how awful they smell.

I don't remember if I actually gave up drinking while I was truing to give it up.

Anyway, the important thing is to keep busy doing something, anything, as to not be standing around doing nothing that'll justify a smoke break.

Re: Stop Smoking

Gave up cigs on July 7, 2,000 and booze on March 18,03.
It helps to remember the date so you can look back at how long ago it was.
Then you have those milestones like 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year,
5 years, etc.
Be stronger than the cig. Hange in there.
