South Florida- Lake Worth
Just came back from South Florida. Hadn't been down there in a while
And Holy **** - the Mexicans have completely over taken the city of Lake Worth & Palm Beach County. Down town Lake Worth has turned into Mexico - thousands of illegals.- just hanging out in the down town area and all surrounding streets. Pulled into a Home Depot just to watch as 10 - 20 - 30 Mexicans would chase every pickup truck that entered the parking lot. They hang at every 7/11 Quickie Marts - waiting to pounce. Something that has to be seen in person to believe. Now I hear that the Mexico & American Governments are going to build a 6 lane super highway from down in Mexico up thru the States & into Canada with no vehicle checks will be performed. Heavy Gang related crime is just now starting to be a every weekend happening in this LakeWorth town. Anyone here live in that area? Sonny |

Just south of me, I read about it every day. It's slowly working it's way up here. I think that our median home price of $285K ought to hold them back for a while.

Re: South Florida- Lake Worth
Well I for one reside a mere 15 minutes from there. However I am a little touchy on the Hispanic subject. I have Mexican cousins and I am half Asian / Hispanic myself. I got really angry the other day when someone just outright called me Mexican. Seeing as I went to war TWICE in Afghanistan and Iraq I think I have more right to call myself American than a lot of other so called Americans. I jumped out of planes, was in the Airborne Infantry and was an NCO. I also am a qualified British paratrooper.
My grandfather was in the Army during WW2 and my dad was in the Army during Vietnam (yes both US Army) and still some people think I am from across the border. Did I also mention I am a licensed GC? I will say this; those who have come to this country to work illegally are doing nothing but a disservice to the rest of us. They come in and work well below what the trades or a journeyman would make. It’s also hard to compete against other G.C.'s who knowingly use them as their primary labor force. One of the last unlicensed contractors I worked for used about 90% illegals, paid no workman’s comp. on them and of course no taxes. Once I learned exactly how he ran his company and what all he did wrong I could not stand to work for him any longer. That did not stop several large builders from using this individual. I will say that for those who want to come here that the military is an excellent way to earn your citizenship. It’s what happened to my Dad when he came to the USA. |

Re: South Florida- Lake Worth
air, some offense intended.
One of my best buddies (also a VN vet) happens to be of Mexican roots. His father (first generation) flew Hellcats in WWII and was in the CAP until health forced him out. My concern is with the newbies that sonny mentioned. Most of them don't want to be Americans, they are just here for the money to send home. They also don't seem constrained by our (American) protocols. Read the crime page. Today it reads like a Latin America phone book. They want US to learn THEIR language AND want bi-lingual signage everywhere. The Irish, Germans, Chinese, Polish, Jews, et. al. assimilated and became part of the general population. What's the Hispanic excuse?

Re: South Florida- Lake Worth
No I feel that anyone, regardless of background, should follow the laws of this country in order to be a citizen. If English is the official language of the USA then it should be required to be part of the USA. We should not bend our laws to those who are not willing to do their part. America seems bent upon making things easier for everyone else. To me it makes no sense at all.
The leadership of the country has shifted focus entirely into one area and now we are faced with uncontrolled illegal immigration. In another post someone stated it best; by paying taxes we contribute to the programs that make the country run and are accustomed to. The vast majority of illegals are not paying taxes or contributing to social security and will (if not already) put a major strain on our larger social systems. I would venture to say that if the illegals were not willing to; 1. learn english and 2. upon learning english be granted the ability to be naturalized then be required to pay all taxes Then they should be deported! Its a staggering and costly problem that has seemed to be of lesser importance since 9/11. |

Re: South Florida- Lake Worth
Teetor,
I dare say, that you could probably fit 3-5 families in one of those $ 285,000.00 priced houses. Especially, if the working members are employed on staggering work shifts, so as to not seem so crowded at any one moment in time. In Elgin Illinois, the building code enforcement had the "audacity" to inspect the rental units and count how many tooth brushes were in stock. That didn't fly for too long before the minority voices came crusading down on the government for doing a half-azzed method of keeping the illegal population in check. In Carpentersville, right by Elgin, the local board was one of those communities on the news for trying to take legal measures against employers and landlords to make them responsible for the over growth of the illegal population. My # 1 foreman, who has just been promoted to multi-job project manager has been with me for 8 years this coming May. It has been very time consuming and costly for him to acquire legal citizenship. It needs to be made easier for the ones who want to be members of this society, to be able to feel as if they belong. Ed |
