Something That I Do As A Hobby

Here is something that I do as a Hobby/Part Time Job. This is a Mahogany Stave Drum Kit. It is a 10" Tom, 12" Tom, 14" Floor Tom and a 18" Bass Drum. The customer wanted a Emerald Green MetalFlake finish on it. I have the flake on all four pieces and all I like is the bass drum hoops left to flake. I will let these sit for a few weeks and then I can level sand the shells and then buff them out. All I use is high end automotive coating systems for the custom cars. The stuff is very easy to work with and you can do so much with it and it last as well.

Cool. Are you making the drum hollows or just painting them?

Everyting. These are Stave Shells, not Ply Shells. If they were ply shells then I would use shells by Keller.

Cut the staves to the correct size, Glue them up and then strap them down until the glue cures. Set drum up on the lathe and then turn the Sorry but I do not have any pictures of the shell building process. Here is a link on youtube that shows the process. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHjBLD9Qb2w

One thing is I have a friend that has a cabinet shop and he helps me turn the shells. There are many species of wood that can be used.
