So...you think you want a dog...
So I've mentioned my dogs here before. We have a third dog I never really talked about. The oldest one, about 11 y/o. My girlfriend had since she was weaned. Little dog, ****zu terrier. Standard lap dog/spoiled little princess.
Well...something went down in the yard today. Not sure what, but Sushi (the little one) was on the sidewalk sort of seizing. I was not here during any of this, but my GF was. She picked up the dog, and there was blood. She got her to vet ASAP, but ther was nothing they could do.
Inspection revealed deep puncture wounds on top and bottom of neck. Dog murder. We suspect it was the newest addition, Brutus (the rescue dog) but have no proof. Vet says Sushi was not responding to pain, so she believes it was quick and painless, most likely broken neck severed spinal cord. GF says she never a heard a sound or a yelp, which backs that theory up.
She's pretty busted up over this and doesn't know what to do. She loves the dogs. What really has her tweaked is what she went through to nurse Brutus back to health and now this...
These dogs all got along great. Don't know what triggered it. I have noticed when Brutus and Charlotte are together they have a strong pack mentality and act aggressively towards other dogs, but never amongst the three of them. She is of the mindset that it was not intentional or malicious, just dogs being dogs. Or that B & C play together very roughly and Sushi may have just got caught up in the melee accidentally.
I think we're going to split them up. One at my house, one at hers. B & C stay with me sometimes, and sometimes with her.
What a crazy freaking day.

Sorry to hear that . We have two beagles . My son decided he wanted a "big" dog to play fetch with . We went to the pound and found a nice German Shepard that was great with us . I wanted to take the time to bring our dogs over and see how they interacted but the kid was ansy and it seemed like such a nice dog . He was great with people but any animal that moved around him was kibbles , I mean in for the kill . We tried to keep him , make him an outside dog . Built him a super house that I would dare tell the wife how much cost to build . He still didn't work out . Some cats stroll through our yard and he was all over them . Back to the pound I am afraid . Some one else adopted him and has no pets , so I guess it's working out for them .

Sorry to hear all that Charlie.
Dogs are like people to me. The pain of loss is no different.

That's especially true in my GF's case. She had the dog for 11-12 years...it was her companion. Went everywhere with her.
She's feeling a lot better today. Still not sure what we're going to do with Brutus. She really loves him too, but she's still torn. And I'm still blown away by all this.

There is a simple and Natural conclusion.
They are Dogs and THIS IS WHAT DOGS DO.
Painful for you and I, but part of life for them.

I am sorry to hear that Charlie. But it was no accident. Dogs use their mouths for everything all their lives. They know exactly how much pressure they are putting out, and what it is capable of.
Once a dog kills, he will usually kill again. Keep an eye on him. Your other dog is probably safe, sounds like she is alpha female. But outside dogs?

Yeah...dogs being dogs. We know that. They're separated now. One will stay at my place the other at hers till she figures out what she wants to do/if she can live with the little guy.
And they're inside/outside dogs. They spend most of the day outside unless it's too hot raining, then they come inside. And they sleep inside most times. They have a door with unrestricted access.
