Sniff, sniff, drys eye... I want to take up memorial funds

I just want to propose we start up a memorial fund for The Great War Poll thread, and establish a memorial plaque or something to honor it. I thought not only was it a real break-thru here, but it was extremely interesting, there were some great posts, some great insights and points of view and for the most part barring just a couple of people it was kept totally civil with no flaming. I'm going to really miss it, it gave me a reason to visit here when I got tired of reading all the "How much should I charge" posts.

RIP Great War Poll
You will be missed, but never forgotten.

By the way if Bob starts part II does it qualify for another 500 post run?

Well, thanks to everyone for having a good debate without letting it get too heated.

We let it go on for a while but in the end this site is about contracting and I just hate to see the Off-Topic forum take over sometimes.

A good off topic discussion is what brings me to a site. I get enough of work at work.
That dosent mean I wont get interested in business threads sometimes if I see one that offers good info or gives me a chance to help someone.
Deleting my posts will cause me to lose interest about as quick as anything you can do.
JMHO.

Well said Mike. I really like this site. I've surfed it many times, but just recently registered. One reason being that thread and the (un) service majic threads. Even though I looked at that thread alot I still viewed the other threads and made a couple posts. It is called the "Off Topic (non trade)" forum so I would think posts like that are perfect for that forum and a good "draw"for new people to register.Just my opinion. Nathan I think your doing a great job with this site. It is very informative. Thanks

That is when I found out I need 10 post to include a link to news paper article about my new business. Well I had 7 posts so I picked a thread at random and bumped it 3 times to get my post count up. They didn't mean anything too me as such but I need 20 posts it seems so I can respond to a private message I received. Well the 3 bumps I posted have been deleted it seems so now I'M still down some of the posts I need to use the private message system.
No big deal I guess but I did take notice of it and I was tired and a bit cranky last night it would appear. I kind of wish I hadn't said anything about it now. Look at all this typing to explain I have caused myself.

Your posts were NOT deleted. They were moved to a trash bin. The trash bin is were we put posts that do not belong on the site and only the moderators can see this area. Your posts had no content to them except to say "BUMP" so I moved them so they didnt' kill a perfectly good thread and the discussion going on there.

Anyways... by me moving those posts you did not loose any post count. They were not deleted.

We have had A LOT of problems with SPAM on this site and often times people register just to post a link or PM people their spam.
The 10 post before posting a link rule is an effort to stop spam and it has worked well. Most spammers are lazy which is why the depend on spam in the first place so they are not willing to make 10 posts just to post a message that they know will get deleted quickly.
The reason we require 20 posts before someone can PM is because it's not an easy thing to catch and we had someone PM a large portion of our member base one night without us knowing.

The way I view it is that there are 116,000 posts on this site and I wouldn't think it would be too hard to find 10 or even 20 posts to respond to.

Anyways, sorry for the confusion but just bumping a thread over and over again is both against the rules and does not qualify as valuable content which is why I moved it.

Thanks.

Seeing your new, this is just an FYI. Politics aren't allowed here, plain and simple. Unless it is VERY pertinent to the trades, IE illegal immigration/employer issues, it is a no-no. The GREAT WAR POLL started out fairly harmless, but we all knew it was going to get political real quick, and usually at that point, it spirals out of control. Amazingly enough, this one didn't. I just couldn't see locking it when everyone was playing nicely. But be rest assured, any politics rear their ugly head here, it will be locked and *POOF* disappear.

I joined 2 years ago...not so new unless there is a minimum # of posts to be considered an old timer here. When your learning sometimes you just listen. That dosent mean you haven't been around some.
Never the less you want an all business forum ....I understand and will respect that. I wont enjoy it as much but I will respect it.

So what use is this little guy? Or this one?

OK OK I quit I'LL be good. So did anyone read my serious post about my new business? I was pretty proud of that one. No response to it though. I had to play a lot of politics to get the zoning for that business. LOL

Dang it I can't quit.

We aren't all business here at all. We just had a no politics rule because in the past those discussions have always gone down hill very quickly.

As many had stated this discussion was very good and everyone (for the most part) respected each other so we let it live on to 500 posts which is a ton.
But the bottom line is that, as with all political threads, no one ever changes anyone Else's mind and after 500 posts I think what needed to be said had already been said.

Also, when I posted that I was going to close it at 500 posts (with 55 posts to go) no one complained so we just went for it.

Sorry about that Mr Prowallguy I didn't see the "no politics allowed" in the disclaimer when I registered, but like I said it my prior post, It was just "my" opinion. And yes I did just register, but as I stated, I have been hanging and surfing this site for quite awhile and only wanted to opine as to why I finally registered and what might bring in more users. So as your profile says "your the boss" and as my profile says I work two full time jobs so I'm pretty busy and will stop back time to time.
