Show Your Tatoos

I'm thinking of getting a tatoo on my shoulder or forearm. I currently only have one - my name on my wrist from when I was 14 and not worth showing. But I'm thinking of finally getting a professional one. I could use some inspiration. What do you guys (and ladies) have?

Re: Show Your Tatoos

Sorry, visible body art goes nowhere here. It still conveys all that it is associated with (bikers, sideshow freaks) to my elderly, rich clients.

I have many called scars, a lot have been covered up by wrinkles.

If the dude is excellent, I MAY hire him. Otherwise, the body art is a trip to the door.

Think about this HARD.

Keep them where you can cover them up easy! I have 7 and very few clients ever know about them.

To each their own.........I am not for them in general. I do support public branding of sex offenders and low ballers so long as the tat is placed on their forehead.

Re: Show Your Tatoos

I have I think 14 of them. Almost all covered up on my upper body except for one on my forearm that was a memorial tattoo for a friend that died when he was 20 almost 4 yrs ago. Most customers just ask about it because it is a cross. Other than that they never see my tattoos. My attitude gets me jobs. Im 24 so apperance is against me from the start. Use other things to sell with.

This is going to be fun. I've seen pic's of some of our members.

I'm still sticking to my guns. High end folks have problems with tats and that does influance my hiring.

I have 2 and nobody sees them unless I'm shirtless. I would probably never get anything on my forearm, or where it would be tough to cover if I choose to. How about this one:

Re: Show Your Tatoos

This is the one I got when I was 14 (34 years ago!) and yes, I did get my but whipped for it. It's on the top of my wrist so there's no hiding it. But I don't get asked about it very much. On the rare occasion someone does ask about it I usually reply "at least I'll never break up with myself". My brother and my best friend (at the time) got the same thing - 'cept their name, of course. They also got their butt wipped.

I'm not really concerned about getting one that's visible. All you who advise against it make good points, but I just don't think it's that big an issue. I'm considering maybe a cross. My girlfriend is a devout Christian, so I might get in a little less trouble with her about it. Also, it will be professionally done, not with a sewing needle and indian ink, like my name was done.

Got it when I was 17

Got that when I was 21

This was my first, at 15

I have never had a problem with my tats and customers. However I don't work with homeowners so I guess that is a plus. Also, only one is visable..and that is the shamrock.

I don't work with my shirt off so it's not a problem. TRUST ME..you do NOT wanna see this flab bouncin around before you sit down to lunch!

Re: Show Your Tatoos

Until recently, SOP for paramedical, LEO, and emergency personnel was to assume psychotic behavior from anyone with more than 3 visible tattoos. Obviously, this is no longer a viable triage method, but I maintain that in the long run there will be a lot of sorry people for what they have done to themselves.

I actually think tats are cool, especially if you are a Maori or use a bow and arrow as your primary means of sustenance, but among normal people, I think it just looks goofy.

Ayup. No visible tats on the crew. If you have 'em, they get covered. No exceptions.

And personally - I must come from another generation. No tats here, none on my hubby. I tell my kids, piercings heal, but a tatoo is forever.

Re: Show Your Tatoos

In another thread it was asked if we're picky about who we work for. I posted one simple response, that I'm very picky about who I work for. I think the visible tatoo has a lot to do with that. If somebody is going to turn me away because of a tatoo, then that's somebody I don't want to work for. I guess the 'too is just a way of putting my cards on the table.

I'm clean cut, wear clean work cloths that fit properly, I provide professional workmanship, I'm punctual, curteous, don't smoke on the job, rarely drink at all... Basically, I'm a decent and responsible person. But if someone can't see that because of a tatoo, then I'd rather not work for them. I guess getting a visible, but professionally done, tatoo is just a way of cutting through the fat. If they don't hire me because of a tatoo, professional or home-made, I'll just go on to the next customer. No skin off my nose.

I guess you can show that one to customers who think you charge too much.
