Should CT Be PC?

Noticed a couple mods with issues, one doesnt like certain stuff based on his personal beliefs, another dosent like stuff that might affect his personal profiteering off this site.

I pay nothing to be here and I'm sure most dont. Nathan has to make something to support this free habit for us. I understand that. But when does it become unreal, a sellout. This is contractor talk right? We're not by nature "boys you hope your daughters comes home with" people are we?

Arent we really a bunch of black sheep rejects with issues who are too stupid to lay down and die?

The PC thing is killing me. Anybody else?

That's one reason why I come and go.
It's a damned construction site not a bunch of office workers blogging .....Then again, the business has changed. We now have girly boys doing it.

Re: Should CT Be PC?

Yes and no.

I have tried hard to shed the image of the pickup truck, beer guzzling , can't read or write, doesn't have a clue about business contractor that Ho's have of us.

I have never been in that bracket

If we continue to behave like that to the general public we will continued to be pimped on craigs list for 100 bucks a day.

I am also the most down to earth guy you can meet, so don't get it twisted, but we have to start somewhere on improving our image.

This is a public forum that is viewed and access by the general public, light ribbing is expected and understood, but looking and sounding like an ass makes us look, like assess.

I kid and joke around all day. You speak to my customers, subs and those that do business with me, they will tell you my companies work is above par.

I take a bit of liberty here because my company is established and this really is my personality in real life, so if someone stumbled upon this site they would realize that's Rory being himself.

But what would they think of the newer guys companies?

What would your customers think about you?

What do homeowners lurking think about you or us?

Some of the guys take this site seriously because they know or feel that it would reflect on them and their companies.

Some guys here post using their real names and real companies info

I think you have to find the right middle grown. You can hang out and shoot the ****e but you also have to remember there are other guys who want to use the court to shoot hoops.

Trust me I am not picking on you, but I have scene both sides of the coin since I have been here.

There are some guys who post that I try not to disturb their post/threads, some guys I know are fine with me/humor and I will post in their threads.

The site has rules and its posted for all to see, we follow them or get banned. Simple really.

I push the limits some days, but when the guys put me in time out, I realize its everyone's house and not just mine.

I completely agree. Some mods are driving me a little crazy. I have no problems with Nathan or this site. Just some power madness with some mods.

Re: Should CT Be PC?

When you have an issue, why not try the PM feature, instead of setting up a thread to cause a problem?

This sight is for construction professionals.....if you want it to be a beer joint, then you will probably have to seek another forum. It is not about imposing anyone's moral code of ethics on anyone, it is about maintaining a professional forum.

Try looking at the number of "guests" who view most sections of this forum at will...and consider how many calls you will get if they see something objectionable.

Overall, I'd say this place is fairly moderated. But regardless of the way it's moderated, there will always be someone who has issues.

I post what I post, and don't give it a second thought. I've had a few threads/posts deleted, but never banned or timed out.

Just remember one thing:

I'm not really into PM'ing anyone, I'm more of a upfront and in your face kind of person.

So there is some doubt for you as to my construction professionalism, whatever. I dont suffer from a whole lot of self doubt. I build and make nice stuff. Professionalism be damned except where it is warranted.

I personally dont care about the "sees objectionable", whatever. Isnt this a contractor forum?

That is where we part ways. The last word on this is "closed", and if you disagree, take it up with the moderator that is offending you, or Nathan.

Re: Should CT Be PC?

If someone wants to contact me, my e-mail address is EddiesDad@sbcglobal.net

My PM box should get cleaned out by this weekend, after I search through all of my hate mail, LOL.

One point I want to make, is that Nathan picked a diverse group of Mods. We don't always agree, but the additional insight is what allows us to bounce things off of each other for further perspective about some issues.

I could very easily see that a thread with this topic in mind could go to Hell in A Handbasket pretty darned quick and get trashed, but what purpose would that serve?

If me moving that thread from General Discussion into the P & R section, to keep it out of the public and Google spotlight is what the purpose of this thread is, feel free to express your opinion to me directly.

Okay? No problem, right?

I'm not sure what this is about, and I don't even recall the OP's username in any recent reported posts. So I'll offer up this:
