Scotch Drinkers
A new take on Precision's Rum thread.
Any Scotch fans? Lagavulin is my favorite. I enjoy any scotch from Islay, Glenroths is also a great single malt. Hell, I love em all.

Re: Scotch Drinkers
I'm no expert, and whatever taste I acquired I got through the elders in my family through the years. Quick inventory of what's on the shelf downstairs:
18yo Glenlivet with 1/2 inch left in the bottle 1/2 a bottle of Dewars. 3/4 bottle of Laphroaig. 3/4 bottle of Knob Creek. 1/4 bottle of Baker's. I drink the Baker's more than the others. My dad and my uncle are also big fans. And I swear I'm straight, but for desert sometimes I like to sip a single malt and eat really dark chocolate. (Man, that sounded gay.) I also started Christmas Eve dinner off this year with the Laphroaig and some freshly brined and smoked striped bass. Yum. (Then I switched to martinis and everything went to hell.) A friend of a friend brought over a bottle of black scotch once. I can't remember the name, but if anyone knows of some brands, let me know. Smokiest stuff I've ever tasted, but nice. Also, anyone drink or know of slivovitz? I have a neighbor (Slovakian) that makes his own in his basement. He says people in Slovakia drink it in the morning like we drink OJ. It's supposed to be plum brandy, but his goes down like moonshine. |

Aggie67, My aunt (80 yrs old) still makes it. Not sure of the spelling but man it is some good stuff. I'll go for any good Scotch and the fine Bourbons. |

Re: Scotch Drinkers
Im not a big scotch drinker. I drink mostly bourbon, though Teachers Highland Cream is one scotch I really like. I have been collecting whiskey for the past 4 or 5 years and I think I have about 60 different kinds now. Of the 60 I think I only have 4 or 5 bottles of scotch. I would like to find some more good ones.

Re: Scotch Drinkers
I never leave a bottle open long for it oxidizes and becomes trash in no time.
I'm not a big scotch drinker but I have lots of clients who are and feed me drinks from time to time. Over the years I've developed a bit of a taste for it. I noticed that anyone who drinks can enjoy a well aged blended scotch; for instance johnny walker blue is smooth as butter and tastes like maple syrup. But single malt has a strong smoky peaty flavor that takes alot of getting use to. Lagavulin is great, I've had it a few times and since its straight from the cask everyone varies a little bit in flavor. I find it a little too smokey sometimes. Tallisker I also find has a bit too much bite for my liking. Plus spending 110 bucks on a bottle of Lag is wasted on my pallet. Not being an experienced single malt guy I buy the occasional bottle of Macallans 12. |
