Rum Drinkers

What are some of your favorites? I am currently sipping a surprisingly smooth Captain Morgan Private Stock at the moment.....damn it is good. My go to for the last couple of years has been Mount Gay Eclipse but I have had an itch to try something different and this CM was on sale so I took a shot.

I really don't care for anything Bacardi makes, save for Gold in a pinch when nothing else is available. I have heard Appleton Estate is very good, but never tried it myself.

What say ye fellow pirates

I'm a Bourbon drinker myself, (Woodford Reserve), but when I do drink rum, that Morgans Private stock is some smooooooooooth stuff.

I'm not big on rum, but I do like Lemon Hart.

I tried some Sailor Jerry's over the holidays, 92 proof. That stuff is good

Re: Rum Drinkers

Mount Gay is a relatively recent favorite, though I'm more of a rotgut vodka abuser generally.

But Shane has it with Sailor Jerry. That stuff is dangerous.

Yeah Sailor Jerry's has been my backup to Mount Gay but this Captain Private Stock has 'em both beat by miles. The Jerry's is great for Mojito's.....gets ya toasty quick lol.

If you like Mount Gay, Try Tortuga or Pussers. Both are "heavier", but good!

Nobody drinks Pyrat rum? Damn, that is good stuff. Nice to sip with a good cigar. Not very expensive either.

When I was on a cruise a couple of years ago, I brought back 6 bottles of tortuga from the caymans.....It became a favorite.

I can also drink a bacardi's and coke, cause I'm simple like that The old "any port in a storm" applies.

I'm not usually a rum drinker but I have had Appleton Estate before and it was not bad. Pretty smooth over ice.

Re: Rum Drinkers

Just a funny experience I heard from a neighbor after a group fishing/camping week end for 4 couple and about 10 kids.

He gave his wife some money to get cases of beer for him and his buddies. He also told her to get some rum, cola and Mai Tai mix for the girls (usually non-drinkers, but was a camping event).

When they returned from a day of fishing, the women were out and sleeping and kids were running every where and tearing up the camp site. He finally found out she bought 2 bottles of 151 and misread the instructions, so the reversed the rum mix proportions. Since they were not drinkers, they played with the proportions. The cola they had was Jolt Cola (twice the caffine and sugar) and the kids probalbly drank it or they girls may have switched to rum and "coke". - His wife was embarrased and would never go the the liquor store in case she could buy the wrong thing.

I spent some time in St. Thomas, in fact my ex wife is from there. We used to drink Mt. Gay there 'cause it was cheap. Now I like Appleton's Estate. Not so cheap.

Years ago a buddy and I tore down an old house that was built circa 1890. In between the 1st floor bead board ceiling and the 2nd floor heart pine flooring was a Jack Daniels Old no. 7 bottle. (at that time it was just called #7). Unfortunately the cork and the bourbon were gone. Obviously the guys who were installing the heart pine finished it off and tossed it under the floor. Looked like it was put there yesterday.

It now sits on my mantle. I took it down to the Distillery (only about 40 miles from where I live) they said it was quite valuable. More valuable to me as a conversation piece when friends come over.
