Seriously, my son turned 21 earlier this year. I really wanted to do something with him but ultimately, I stayed away. He's never been a big partier but he definitely wouldn't if I was around. I wanted him to have a nice, who gives a fook night. Me & his mom chipped in a rented him and his friends a school bus so they could (safely) bar hop all night.
He had fun.
I didn't worry.
The end

I don't have a son that age, only a 7 yr old daughter. It's a parent's job to worry, but try to think back to your 21st BD. You're still here kicking and posting.

It is now time to take him out and have a beer.

give him two pieces of advice;
1. if you are not in bed by midnight, you might as well come home
2. love isn't going to bed with a girl at night, it's waking up with her in the morning

When I turned 21...I did my thing, but more importantly, I wanted to sit and have a beer with my dad....I still have the empty bottle of Honey Brown...(my first legal purchase) that I bought and drank with my dad!
JMO....take him out to lunch, and order 2 beers and tell him you're proud... or buy a six pack and before he leaves for the night, hand him a beer and have a moment!

Well, if you were really cool you'd take him to the Bunny Ranch.

Hand him a beer and enjoy.
My dad did that with me. He died 3 months later. First and last beer I ever had with him.

Take him to a football game if possible. You can do your drinking there, or after the game. With all this talk about drinking beer with your son, I can't imagine people really wait until their children are 21 years old to teach them about drinking.
Alternate #1: cut up some wood with him. Be careful. Listen to a football game on the radio. Don't cut your leg again.
Alternate #2: take him on some jobs with you and work with him.
Alternate #3: I think in two weeks you'll be able to go skiing somewhere in the CONUS. I think everything in Colorado is open already.
Good luck. I hope to contact you in 19 years and you can give me advice on what to do with my daughter.

For me it was a no brainer.
Ever since the Blues Brothers came out
he was hooked on blues.
On his birthday I took him to see a
Chicago band (Studebaker Johnny) at
the Slippery Noodle, bought him his first
legal beer, and embarrassed him
by having them dedicate "Sweet Home Chicago."
Music, beer, and embarrassment....
what else is a Dad for?

"I" would take him to a quiet bar and let him buy me a beer in the afternoon. Time for a serious talk about where he's going and what he doing responsibilities, you know stuff you already taught him. Gives you a chance to tell him 1 last time. He is now a "man" in every sense of the word and as such no longer needs hounding.
My son turned 21 while he was in Iraq....On his birthday I somehow felt cheated out of that moment.
What he does with his evening is up to him. If he wants you to join him, by all means do it. Time for you to be friends now.

Entertaining AND thought-provoking replies. It don't get no better'n that!
Most likely we'll just share a beer and a quiet talk at home. He'll have a night with his friends planned. Fortunately, they're a pretty sensible crowd, so I'm not too worried about that.
But if he insists that I share a beer with him at a strip joint, I guess I'll just have to grit my teeth and endure it.

Should have taken him to Las Vegas, my dad did on my 21st b-day. That should be a mandatory thing for turning 21.

Up North, let 'em kill a bear. Down South, make it a alligator.

Well, He made it to 21, thats reason enough to celebrate!
Old enough to go to bars without being behind them......another major plus!
Have a couple of beers with Him!

If he's a typical 21 year old he's probably already had plenty of beer. Take him out and have a bourbon and coke. And explain the phrase "drinking responsibly."
Hey Ray you just hit 600.
