Re: Red Light Camera BS

There is a big issue in StL about those right now. Some guy fought it, and showed in the picture, you could not see who was driving. So who should be responsible for the ticket? He won the case, and it set a precedent around here. The prosecutors realized they would have trouble, and dropped all the pending cases. I'm sure they will work something out to keep using the cameras.

SAN FRANCISCO — A motorist who received a ticket for driving through a stop sign and then tried to outsmart the system did not count on the traffic commissioner outsmarting him, officials said Thursday.
Instead of paying a $215 fine, the driver, John Doe, 42, was sentenced on Tuesday to one year in jail.

Re: Red Light Camera BS

yea they have red light cameras here in albuquerque also

i got one the other week

i was making a right hand turn on red the light was yellow when i got to the intersection and then of course it turned red BUT the intersection has a turn arrow

so the light turns to red i continue through and the camera pops my picture

so the way i see it is that the time delay from when the light goes to red and when the turn arrow is lit they take my picture and i get a ticket

so what is the delay 1/2 of a second
do they lengthen the delay to catch poor saps like me

Actually, there's been some controversy because some jurisdictions have done just that, which is my primary concern with the whole thing. Do they want it safer, or more profitable?

Guys driving semis don't stand a chance of stopping as it is now, who knows what they'll do when they start cutting down the amber light times.

Re: Red Light Camera BS

They make the sytem works precisely for them. Those laser beam camera/device use the speed measuring techniques called "Doppler Effects" for distance-versus-time measuring as to how fast the objects (cars) moving away from the camera eye. Also same techniques used by military Jets (F-16, etc.) to calculate enemy's speed for exact missle firing, etc. Can't argue about it. They will call expert/technical witness to prove their working systems in court and always win!

Re: Red Light Camera BS

I got a ticket in the mail for blowing through a re-light in Staten Island, NY.

What came in the mail was a shot of the vehicle in the middle of the intersection showing the light as red right above the vehicle (it was really good camera placement ). There was also a close-up shot of the license plate.

The vehicle "got" the ticket, but as I was the owner of the vehicle I got to pay the fine. HOWEVER....as there was no way to prove who was actually driving the vehicle, the fine was NOT issued as a moving violation (no points or other additional issues). There was also no way to document the speed the vehicle was traveling at, so no fines/points/penalties there either.

I don't blow through that intersection anymore.

Me too. I got a ticket back a few years ago. Pix shows lic. plate, the time my car entered intersection, time exited intersection, & time difference, and my car speed during duration/run. I paid like only $50 because they multiplied the number of extra miles/hr over speed limit (35mile/hr) at very slow/city intersection by cost/hr. But my friend got like $100 ticket for speeding at "suburban" intersection at doing 65mile/hr in just 5-seconds passing time/duration. It's crazy! People are objected to town/county, and they will eliminate some cameras only at some locations, but not at all busy/city stops.

So, red ticket difference depends on two factors: 1) how fast you go?, and speed limit at that stop light?

Also, I got a friend paid ticket under his name/car, but his wife or his relative drove it??..., and he NEVER know why he got ticket at first bill too. Only he asked who drove it, and they admitted they borrowed his car at that time/date then he knew it by then.

Re: Red Light Camera BS

Right on red isn't legal in California anymore?
In the 60's guys behind me would honk cause
I wasn't used to that.
So now it's legal here and not there?

Here, as near as I can tell (if you have some special
secret endorsement on your license) up to @ 5 cars
can make a left after it goes red...
There-by burning up the left arrow
for the cross street!
(Apparently this rule only applies to the busiest
intersections, and only during rush traffic.)
I want some of those cameras!

Some intersections have the "Right on Red NOT allowed between 8AM and 3PM" signage....usually around schools.

You could look here for some insight into it.

Hell, up until now, I've never even heard of this red light camera thingy. We don't have enough money in Maine to put them up.

Seems reasonable, a year in jail for trying to get out of a ticket while child molester are getting probation, seems about right for San Francisco where it's okay to do just about anything but blow a stop sign.

Re: Red Light Camera BS

Here's a scarier thought-private speed control (for a profit).

The concept is simple-law and order.

Let's say you are interested in reducing speeders, so you go out and get certified on radar and buy the camera apparatus. The theory is that you will be helping law enforcement. Let's say you get 50% of the fine. Maybe the firms selling the radar/camera apparatus will help you with the set up.

So you drive through a town and some blue hairs hit you with their radar and you get a ticket in the mail. They get a portion of the fine, the municipality/county/state all get their cut.

How much money could you make on your street if you got 1/2 of every speeding ticket?

Think it won't happen in this country?

I didn't think the stoplight photos would ever get here either.

Re: Red Light Camera BS

I got nailed about 2 years ago not long after they installed them. $435 was my fine, it was a left turn. Pic got my front tire just as it was crossing the second line, another of my plate, and another of my face. It wasn't the clearest picture of me, but one could tell who was driving.

Just cause the frlash goes off doesn't mean you will get a fine. If it's close, it will snap pics. That happened to me once or twice on some close calls....but I knew I had made it....still flashed. We have one not far from my house.....it always goes off, day time night time -- red light or green light. Maybe 2 or 3 snaps each time, atleast a few a minute. It's been broken for over a year.

I gotta say, they do work. If I think it will be close, but I am already up to speed, I slam on the brakes versus gambling on another 400+ bucks. F-that. I think they are a good idea....when they are working properly. I have lost very close people in wrecks from A-holes blowing red lights.

"life moves along pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around once and a while you could miss it" F.B.
