RC Cars And Trucks

Hey all. I know RC is real big these days. What do you all have?
I have two 1/10 electric touring cars, a 1/10 electric truck, two 1/10 nitro trucks and a new T-Maxx.
There are a million T's out there. I am not one to follow the crowd so getting a T-Maxx is kind of out of character for me. It's just there are TONS of aftermarket parts for this truck and my local hobby shop has a bunch, besides going to Tower.

I am just breaking in the T-Maxx's engine. As I accelerate the truck to 1/2 throttle or below from a stop it kind of shutters, or bucks. Once it gets rolling it is fine. The engine revs but it seems the tranny is causing the bucking. Anyone else have this issue?
Also, it is flooding right away when trying to start. I am not plugging the muffler to prime, it is doing it by itself.
I hope these are not issues I'll have to deal with and are just break-in issues.
Anyone have any ideas??

Re: RC Cars And Trucks

I have always been into RC cars even as a little kid. Trucks have always been my thing.

Currently I have a Traxxas Tmaxx. This is a nitro powered 4 wheel drive truck capable of 45 mph out of the box. I have hopped up the suspension system and added an high proformance engine cooler.

Nitro is tricky and requires alot of tuning of the engine even after break in. Every day before you run your truck you have to tune it for 15 minutes to find the correct gas-air ratio for that day based on temps and humidity. Then another ritual I hate is is the clean up at the end of play. The issues that you are having are issues I have every day I run my truck. It seems to me youa re running way too rich and need to lean out the fuel air mixture. This will cause your truck to run better but also hotter so be careful!

Due to the high maintenance issues of Nitro I have considered switching from the Tmaxx to the Emaxx which is electric. It is capable of 35 MPH which is truly fast enough for a parking lot novice such as myself. It also has all of the same hop ups (excluding nitro engine). Keep a few extra batters charging in the truck while I race around and I will be set for hours of enjoyment (batteries are a 15-30 minute burn depending on battery quality and run speeds).

All I have to do is roll mine backwards a few times real fast and it takes off like Ray Charles at Daytona.

Oh Yeah I am trying to find a 1/8 scale Cargo Van body for use on my truck. I want to add a ladder rack and paint my company name and logo on the side. I think that would be sweet!

I always liked RC. Don't get me wrong, Pepsi and Coke are fine, but I prefer RC. It's getting harder and harder to find.

Re: RC Cars And Trucks

Grump, I have the mixture worked out. Once I got it broken in today I did fiddle with the mixture to get it right. I am familiar with nitro since I have two others, it's just I got them a while back from a friend already broken in. This T-Maxx is my first new gas truck.
I can't seem to figure the transmission out. It still bucks trying to start from a full stop ro real slow. Like a torque converter catching.
It is starting much better now that it is broken in also. This thing screams, especially after it shifts gears!
I am already in the process of getting skid plates, aluminum bumpers and a roll cage for it. I also will get a Venom "fail safe" for it. This is a step up from a standard unit. It has an on board digital temp guage an will shut the throttle down if it gets too hot. It also works as a standard unit for low voltage and out of range problems.

My seven year old son the other day said "Thank You" when he found it hidden in the garage. I said "For what?? This one's MINE!"

I'm going to bolt my new cutoff saw to a skate board.

One other thing I recommend. Get the exhaust pipe extender or you will blow out alot of oil (unused gas) on the rear tire. It's frigign messy to clean up if you've been running it in dirt.

Done! Good call though.
I realized that right after the first break-in tankful.

Re: RC Cars And Trucks

I have always wanted to get some nice RC cars but my wife wont let me. The best I have is a 19.2V battery International CXT and that was only $50 even then she fought me all the way. My parents would never buy me one as a kid because I took everything apart.

I'm a little out of this loop and it sounds like most of y'all are runnin' fuelies.

To those of you runnin' electrics, they have cells that will fit your battery tools. You can make the tools work the same as your cars, very high output/short time or lower output/long time and variations. The kid down the street turned me on to this and used to rebuild my battery packs. He has since gone off to college but introduced me to an 'older guy' (20 yrs. younger than myself) that will also do this. Want the hammerdrill from HeII? Put in some of the quick discharge batteries.

What?!

What could her reasons possible be for not allowing you to enjoy yourself and spend a few of YOUR HARD EARNED dollars?

Maybe it's because I have only been married 10 months but I never run any of my purchasing decisions past my wife and have no intention of doing so in the future. Sure if I were to buy a car or a house, but a $500 toy is another story?

Re: RC Cars And Trucks

My wife does not work. So it would be unfair to make a purchase over 100 bucks for myself without allowing her the same.
She doesnt get money unless I give her some.
So in some respects, I do run it by her. But if I have the same amount for her, I go buy it.

fair enough?

I don't want to pull this thread off topic to discuss maritial issues. I probably shouldn't have even brought it up.
