General George S. Patton....

Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.

Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.

If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.

We herd sheep, we drive cattle, we lead people. Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way.

MadDog Mattis!

"I come in peace. I didn't bring artillery. But I'm pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you **** with me, I'll kill you all"-Mattis

"When Gen. Abrial arrived to relieve me as the supreme commander, only don’t ask, don’t tell kept me from hugging and kissing him"

"Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet."

"The first time you blow someone away is not an insignificant event."

"I were to sum up what I've learned in 35 years of service, it's improvise, improvise, improvise."

"I don't get intelligence off a satellite. Iraqis tell me who the enemy is."

"I would also add that [Al Qaeda] was dumb."

"You are part of the world's most feared and trusted force. Engage your brain before you engage your weapon." Yet more

no war is over until the enemy says it's over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but in fact, the enemy gets a vote

"Marines don't know how to spell the word defeat"

"Demonstrate to the world there is 'No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy' than a U.S. Marine. "

'An untrained or uneducated Marine...deployed 2 the combat zone is a bigger threat to mission accomplishment...than the enemy'

"It is mostly a matter of wills. Whose will is going to break first? Ours or the enemy's?"

USMC COIN: "a country that armed Stalin to defeat Hitler can certainly work alongside enemies of al-Qaida to defeat al-Qaida."

"Be the hunter, not the hunted: Never allow your unit to be caught with its guard down."

Re: Quotes

John Ruskin.....

Quote:
Skill is the unified force of experience, intellect and passion in their operation.
Quote:
When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, “See! This our father did for us"
Quote:
Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort.

Quote:
It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Re: Quotes

From my father, Walter Day when I was 16, got in my first fender bender.

I was expecting both barrels when I told him. His response.

"When you can throw money at a problem, and fix it, it's not a problem. It's when all the money in the world can't fix it, then it's a problem. Nobody is hurt, and we'll get your car fixed"

With that, he turned around and walked away and last time it was ever brought up.

I thought about and used that line my whole life.

Kind of sad, really.

800 or so years ago, we were fighting them under the sign of the Cross. Apparently, we're fighting them under the sign of "F**King MillWall" now.

When I was 16 I asked my Dad if I could go on a very technical rock climb in Yosemite. I was a very experienced climber....

I had made my request via a note to him when he got home late.

A neighbor up the street had recently died in a Yosemite climb.

My Dad answered me with that Mark Twain quote....

On my 21st birthday I carved that quote in an oak plaque and gave it to him....

He is 92 and has asked several times if there is anything in the house I want.

I said the plaque with the Mark Twain quote....

He said you can have it when i die....

More Mad Dog. Love this guy.

"Find the enemy that wants to end this experiment (in American democracy) and kill every one of them until they’re so sick of the killing that they leave us and our freedoms intact."

"I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years."

Re: Quotes

Here's a couple on courage from Winston Churchill, God bless him;

"Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities.... because it is the quality which guarantees all others".

"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."

This is actually from a famous speech he gave during the Battle for Britain so not really a quote but quote like and so powerful,

"Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
We shall fight on the seas and oceans,
We shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
We shall fight on the beaches,
We shall fight on the landing grounds,
We shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
We shall fight in the hills;
We shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”
